Mid 1920s Air-Way Sanitary System Goodwill Find

A co-worker of Arlee's who knows I collect vintage vacuum cleaners told him about a link she came across on the Goodwill on-line auction site. Arlee sent me the link and I watched the auction. I was the winning bidder at $15.00!! Shipping was another $15.00, so low because it came from Long Beach CA -- and got here three days after I paid for it!

They did an excellent job of packing it. The sturdy carton was full of green large-bubble packaging. The pile of it on the floor as I unpacked the box looked like a blob monster from a 1950s horror movie!!

It's in remarkable condition overall, all original. The cloth bag contained an F&G paper bag which was about half full of stuff. I threw it out and put on a new bag.

It runs great and has good suction considering the era it's from.

I already have an Air-Way, the very rare Green Goddess model. And I sure don't need any more vacuum cleaners. But this one was such a steal, and Arlee's co-worker had been nice enough to tell us about it, that I decided to get it.

Wow, a 1929 model F. You can tell, since that's when the contact equalizers came out (height adjustment levers). Nice machine. Chuck Chatham graciously sent me several genuine Air-Way bags, which I'm hoarding for the future. I use a type C Hoover bag in the ones we demonstrate at the Museum. Nice find. Thanks for saving it. Remember Stan Kann said grease the bearings with Vaseline.
