It's hard to believe it was 16 years ago.

It started out as a beautiful Tuesday.
I was in The World Trade Center when I was 16. It was an amazing structure.
It was a terrible thing that happened. I'm only about 2 hours away from there.

Engrained in memory for life

Always thinking on the Tuesday wether it's the 10th., 11th., 12, 13th, etc.
I returned to work the day before from a vacation. There was a Fed Ex stick on my garage door saying my package had been sent. There was no package on my porch, I hadn't ordered anything. Address on sticker matched mine. On that Sept. 12th., a Fed Ex truck exploded on a Texas interstate.
Remember the Enron scandal in Texas in 2000? Just thinking now, if there were any documents from NY in that truck.
Changed the world for a long time. Affected the global economy also.
I was training a new employee that morning. We had just learned the second tower collapsed. We were opening a shipper of merchandise, and two tall cardboard columns came out of it's box. He set them upright corner to corner and a tear came to his eye. I told him it would be ok again someday.
Employess at our corporate headquarters in Montvale NJ sent e mails they were watching the smoke from NY from their offices.
The next day, the younger employees were showing everyone 20 dollar bills folded up like the twin towers burning. Our senior employees thought Pearl Harbor was worse.

Oh I remember

Roger Proehl, his partner Charles Miller and Mike Rogers were at my house, We went to Asheville that morning , never turning on the news or radio, we found out what happened in an antique mall on Lexington street, We toured Biltmore house and came home, We went to Myrtle Beach the next day, Mike and I were amazed to see fighter jets going up and down the coast line as we were swimming in the ocean.

Memorable day

At that time I was working for a large TV / Appliance manufacturer.
I walked in the door and on the first TV I saw live video of a tall, square building on fire. I thought it was just some high-rise fire in Chicago. Not good but no tragedy.
However, on the upper floor was the 1-800 phone bank for the entire nation. The entire floor stopped ringing. The operators got up, as did everyone else and found the nearest TV. Everyone sat transfixed for the remainder of the day.
I found myself in the lab by myself watching the TV all day. It was a national tragedy and work simply did not matter to a soul in the building.
