I said positive things about the large turbo brush in a few other threads but recently, I lost confidence in this item.
There's a piece that's supposed to protect the belt (2nd picture) but look how badly it is made! And the stores can't replace this piece with a better-made kind. At one point, while this nozzle was being repaired at a store (which was the Chapman Boutique), I was cleaning the carpeted surfaces with the combi-tool that came with the canister (3rd picture) and it seemed to do a better job than the turbohead. My youngest brother (who lives with me) likes the combo-tool more than the turbo brush. In conclusion, the turbo nozzle was a waste of money. I hope I could get my hands on a better canister with a motorized nozzle (we currently just have a cheap straight-suction Dirt Devil tank) when I'll get the money and until then, we'll just use the combi-tool for the carpets and I'm considering tossing the turbohead into the recycling bin. | ||

not surprising Motorized nozzles are always better than nozzles that use a turbine, the turbines clog much too easily and they take power from the vacuum to spin the brush. Mike | ||

Air-driven brush rolls are certainly inferior to motor-driven brush rolls as canister attachments - especially when it comes to deep carpet cleaning. But for surface litter removal of threads and clingy hair and dirt, they are much better than a suction-only carpet nozzle which often required the user to "scrub" the carpet surface to remove stubborn clingy dirt. The turbo nozzle that came with the retro Hoover Constellation 10 years ago was quite good - it is similar to the red turbo nozzle that Numatic sells with some of their Henry vacs. Really great at surface litter pick-up.

Raymond, if I was in your position, I wouldn't consider that Miele. The one your should be looking at is the C1 Cat & Dog, it sells for $649, has the SEB217 powerhead that is basically equivalent to your turbobrush in effectiveness, & can be upgraded later to a SEB228 or SEB236 if desired.
However, considering budget is a issue, I would be looking at the Panasonic MC-CG902, 917 or perhaps the Kenmore 400 series that is made by Cleva but based on the Panasonic designs. McHardy Vacuum in London still has the 902 & 917 in stock. At $450 for the 902, that is a good buy for a vacuum that, with gentle treatment, good maintenance & care, will last at least 10 to 12 years. The only issue with them is the quality of the HEPA Filter on the exhaust, & that it isn't a sealed system, but the HEPA Cloth bags available for it solve that issue for most people. The 917 is basically the same machine, just with the Optiflow airflow caddy that slightly improves performance, & a telescopic wand & slightly different tools. "Clingy Hair" would wrap air nozzles or electric ones!If the vacuum couldn't get it---you had to pick up the hair by HAND!Most of the time a suction only tool could pick it up. | ||

rd285 I would not use the rd285 on a carpet, they are good on hard floors though. You could always get a straight suction canister and then get the volt power nozzle. Mike | ||

Turbines
Turbines can be fun but they're really only good for surface dirt and provide some agitation to help remove hair and fiber. The small openings before the turbine create way too much airflow loss to effectively deep clean. I'd say the best carpet turbines are probably the turbocats but even they cannot replace a good power nozzle.
