This caught my eye on eBay tonight. I always enjoy learning about Hoover history, but I've never heard of a Hoover dehumidifier. Does anyone know the story behind this?

I didn't know Hoover made dehumidifiers. I've got a Kenmore similar to it but a little newer, made in the '80s, I think. I paid $15 for it at a thrift shop and use in the storage building behind my house. It does a pretty good job, pulling close to a gallon of water out of the air every three to four days in the summertime and the same amount every seven to ten days in the winter.

I see dehumidifiers frequently at thrift shops but they're almost always missing their water collection bins, which makes them pretty much useless, especially considering that a new replacement bin, if you can even find one, will run you $50 or $60--for a square plastic tub!!!

John Long or Tom Anderson may know who made it for Hoover. Hoover had their name on lots of appliances, but only made a couple I think if I remember correctly.

Looks like a nice quality dehumidifier, and it appears to have an overflow switch for it to cut off, which is nice. I wonder if you could somehow add an extension tube to the one doing to the collection bin and have it empty into something like a sump pump for a basement. That would be nice to have it on a timer too to run during certain hours. Seems expensive though at $80.

We have a newer Gibson dehumidifier (1998) that has a punch out to add a drain hose to the collection bin which we have running to the floor drain.  And I also have it connected to a timer so that it only runs at night when our electric rates are lower.

It looks like it has a connection for a hose, but it was sealed off. A drill, New connection, and some Teflon Tape could have it draining through a hose again.

The hose connection IS closed.

It can be re-opened.
I'm picking it up tomorrow.
