Machine runs fine if you're not using it, but when you use it or put your hand over the intake creating vacuum, it shuts down and the light comes on that says you need to change the bag. Even with a brand new bag it does the same. Any ideas? Thanks. Allen

Well

From what i've seen the most common cause of the machine being too sensitive is this valve. The valve controls the sensitivity of the auto shutdown. I have also seen the mechanism at the front of the machine near the switch be the problem before.

If all else fails you could just disconnect the valve assembly the only disadvantage to that is it will no longer shut down on it's own when the bag becomes filled.

Thanks. At least for now, I think I'll disconnect it. Do I disconnect one or more hoses or do I do it somehow with the wires? Allen

You can just connect one of the hoses that go to the control valve. That will over ride the full bag auto shut off.

I had the same problem and it was the valve as described. The fun part is taking the machine apart to get to it. And then of course getting it back together. I actually bought a new valve and wound up not using it. The little piece inside the valve came loose and I wound up gluing it back in place. I now keep the valve in recommended middle and have no need to move it. Works fine now.

I do have a question for future. I believe there were 3 hoses attached to the valve. Do you just leave one attached to the valve to bypass as descibed above? Any recommondations on which hose to keep attached? This is good to know for the future.

Always get such great info and leanings on this cite! Love it! Thanks, Richard.

A little update. Seems like this thing has had two problems. I disconnected the valve and now it runs longer before shutting down. But this time after about 10 seconds it comes back on by itself and then continues with this on and off pattern. This time no lights light up. Before, the bag light would light when it shut down. So I think I eliminated one problem and not the other.

Thanks for the help. Allen

This YouTube video shows which vacuum hose to disconnect.

no problem! Yeah,I followed that same video with my vacuum and just left the tube there disconnected. Was an easy fix. I just check regularly to make sure the vacuum bag is not full.

OR, you could just fix it. The hose that connects at the intake tube (the part that goes INTO the bag), connects to a plastic piece molded to the side of that tube. The hole is clogged with dust (happens all the time). A simple cleaning with a wire from a bread twisty tie will solve the problem with the machine shutting off when a hand is placed over the intake.

The machine isn't supposed to shut off when a hand is placed over the hose end. To that end, the tube from the front door communicates at the valve with a tube that connects to the bag chamber itself. These two equalize the pressure at the valve when a hand is placed over the hose end. When one is clogged, it throws it all off balance.

Don't just disconnect the tubes, actually fix the problem. It's not that difficult. I've done this hundreds of times over the years for customer's repair job machines. And charged good money to do this simple repair.

Nother question. IF we decided to replace the motor on the vac, as we've found no fix thus far, is there anywhere we could find one for a reasonable price?
