A few years ago my old shop vac called it quits.After a few stores i bought la creme de la creme .A 16 gallons wet and dry whit blower port and drain plug 60 liter 6.0 hp .Yess sir ree. The biggest badest shop vac. In the spring water comes in the basement and i clean cars to and my shed so this is perfect .I always use a bag and a cartridge filter
The hose is 24 feet long made by hooling up 3 hose of 8 foot sectoon. | ||

For me id say in my option my 16 gallon shop vac has a lot of air flow and suction even if the hose is 24 feet long and 2-1/4 . Made by joining 3, 8 foot hose together maybe its due to the fac i use a cartridge filter and a paper bag ,but my shop vac 16 gallon has not let me down yet. Yes they can be quite loud mine odes have a diffuseser whit filter so its not so bad i put it on the blower port makes it quieter to some intent but makes up for it in cleaning power i sure love my 16 gallon shop vac.

Use it recently to un clog a bath room sink . (but shopvac cleared that up fast .). but did not have to take the trap apart or any pluming . shop vac made quick work of it .Gota love the Shop-vac now i have a other vacuums for daily use but for wet spills ,or drains, or other big mess i dont want in my every day vacuum .Shop vac to the rescue its HUGE being 16 gallon but sure works good .Actually when i bought it at the store ,the pump vac witch is what i had ,mine broke was more expensive than a bigger 16 gallon the choice was easy.(blower port drain plug .)
The 16 gallons i use it for my shed ,cleaning cars, the concrete walk way in front of the house , basement ,dry wall or other big mess not meant for smaller house only vac . I had a 4 gallon that lasted 10 years ,a 5 gallons after ,a 6 gallon not to good to weak ,a 10 whit the pump that broke . But this 16 gallons 6.0 HP 60.5 Liter has not let me down yet love it .I upgraded the cartridge filter and a 24 foot hose by joining 3 - 8 foot section together .I love the drain plug whit wet spill no more thank lifting up the stairs just un plug the drain and roll the vacuum to the in floor drain voila a true back saver . The 24 foot hose is so nice for cleaning stairs or the car . Keep the vacuum in one spot and on board attachments on the back of the machine.Its so easy i reach every were .I had spare hoses so i thought why not make a central hose for my wet dry vac so i did. | ||

I always have a huge Shop Vac for flooding emergencies. I upgraded to one that has the two big wheels on the back so I can roll it up stairs when it is loaded with water after the one I had comparable to the one pictured in the original post had the handle break off. I really wish Shop Vac would stop using thin recycled plastic.
I have been working on trying to fix all the leaks around my house foundation as best I can. It did have the foundation waterproofed when my father bought the house in the 1970s because he was so far ahead of his time in thinking, so it does fine there, it's just there's random points I haven't sleuthed out yet as water entry points. One time when my top load washing machine died and the motor was smoking with he drum full to the top with water, I had to use the shop vac to empty it. It sucked out the whole washer in less than 3 minutes. Did kill the last Shop Vac I had on accident by picking up salt water when my water softener flooded on 2 occasions. The salt vapor and water passing through the vacuum basin killed the motor less than a year after buying it. It was totally rusted over. | ||

yeah some of those shopvac have pretty hard life picking up huge mess and other large debris but god bless em in a flood or Reno situation life savers .Mine has a drain plug , on the bottom of the thank so no lift-hing , any more just remove the drain cap and voila . As you can see by the pictures i posted in the beginning of this read its 16 gallon whti a 24 to 30 foot hose stair cleaning is a breeze now.

Oh yeah mine has the drain plug too but my basement has no floor drains and putting all that floor debris and nasty crap down the sink drain would make another mess so I haul it outside to dump it in the driveway and rinse it out with the garden hose, if the weather is nice when it happens.
Yeah I had that size too, it does work good. I just don't use my shop vac for anything other than garage or flood cleaning as they are too clunky and cumbersome. I do have the Shop Vac Hang-Up Mini that I got from Goodwill. I guess it's 10-15 years old? I am not sure if it was ever sold in your location, but it is an amazingly handy little thing. I used it to clean an entire room in my basement, mainly getting along the ceiling joists and above the poured foundation wall and getting a bunch of nasty stuff out of corners and all that that has probably been there 40+ years.

Yes those were called the all around or hang up 5 gallon at Canadian Tire .
I use my beast 16 gallon for basemen,t the stairs ,dry wall, wet spills, or after shampoo a carpet to vacuum all the water out ,or cars and shed .I have a floor drain im lucky but most time i dump it outside too. The central vacuum length hose sure comes in handy for stairs or the car cleaning time or getting those cob webs in my ceiling ect . Cant beat a shop vac Ultra i love it .For mine i use a bag in it keeps the thank cleaner i find and easy dust dumping . | ||
