Hey Guys!

Can someone tell me...with the Electrolux PN5, why is it that the headlight vibrates/rattles? I took the nozzle apart and cleaned it thoroughly, replaced the belt with the missing teeth, replaced the bulb, and suctioned out all the fuzz balls and the like. All seems good.

The brush roll was in pretty good condition but it's possible it's warped. I was told by one person that I could place a drop of oil in each side of the end bearings; however, I also had always been told by another person that the oil will heat up during use and causing the ends to melt or warp. Is this true? I didn't oil either end. I simply put it back together and it runs freely and smoothly.

But, why does it rattle?

Are sure it's a PN5?

I've had two PN5's and neither of them had a headlight. That said, you may have worn brush roll bearings that need to be replaced. I've got an old PN1 with worn brush roll bearings that shakes, rattles and rolls all over the place but it cleans like a beast. I've pretty much retired it in favor of my PN2 and PN4 nozzles.

Regarding oil, it's a lubricant and the function of lubricants is to reduce friction. Friction causes heat to build up; therefore, reducing friction will also reduce heat.

When you turn the PN over can you grab the bristles near the end of the brush roll and move the brush roll up and down. If so the slots for the bearing supports have been welled out. The best way you can describe it is that the brush roll will flop around inside the housing and vibrate. Also if the brush roll is warped it will vibrate as well.

I think the PN 5 had metal straps that went across the top of the bearing supports with at screw on each side. The PN 6 started a screw on one side in the plastic wall to squeeze the slot that the brush roll bearing support fits into.
