I got a used 2006 Miele Capricorn from craigslist. This is my first attempt at a restore. I only paid $100 for the unite and it had a SEB 236 power head. If all was lost, I figured i could get at least that amount in parts.
When the unit arrived I noticed that the whole body of the canister was sticky. My first thought was that the owner had used some type of hairspray around the canister and it was sticky and nasty. I started to clean the unit and the original luster started to come back. Some simply green to remove the sticky finish and it left a nice gray metallic paint layer. The simple green ended up removing the Miele logos. In other photos of the Capricorn I've noticed the logo scratches and fades very easily. Every inch was sticky and I started to think it was the finish that had failed on this unit.
As I started to disassemble and clean every inch I noticed items that weren't exposed were also sticky and my theory on the finish failing has to be true.
Has anyone else noticed this on a Capricorn?
Everything else is working awesome and I'm planning on reselling it.
Anyone have a source for Miele parts? I broke the hinge on the cord rewind button.
