Yikes. What happened???? I wanted to collect coffee can Hoovers. I have the 105, 700, and 725. Cool old vacuums, plus a dusting tool attachment kit. Not very exciting. I wanted gadgets.

Then I found a $40 Classic III with a large assortment of tools. A $15 Tradition in excellent shape. A $20 Classic that needs a lot of TLC. A $25 G3 that is very nice. A $9.80 Heritage II / Legend with shampoo kit and assorted tools from St.Vincent DePaul (like Goodwill).

I have acquired a big pile of cool attachments. The only one that I'm missing for those machines is the Braun hair cutting tool. I'm soooo into polishing and wire wheel grinding with the two different handy butlers. The Tradition is currently the workhorse for that job. I was given two motor bases - one of which I'll convert to full time grinding and polishing. I haven't tried the sander, jigsaw, or sprayer yet.

When I got the Classic III, I thought that all Kirbys were the same, just with different paint jobs. Well, I've learned a lot in the past couple months. Each has a style and features that separate them. My favorite is my first - the Classic III. I keep it out in the open in my living room.

Todd,

Same thing happening with me...

I keep wanting to buy a Royal Commercial metal upright, because I remember my grade school and my junior high school each having two (one with the normal-size 14" wide nozzle, and another with the super-size 18" wide nozzle)... but Kirby always seems to be a fascinating brand to me. Why? Was it because I liked my Mom's Classic III when I was only six years old?

Yes, like you, I have learned a lot in recent years about all the various traits of all the Kirby models produced. That's another reason Kirby always seems to enter my mind among vacuum cleaners these days.

I may get a Heritage II soon... make that two Heritage IIs in the near future!

~Ben
