I have posted quite a but on the Maytag 1200. Below I will summarize my options and rate several aspects of the vacuum on a scale from 1-5, 1 being the lowest score and 5 being the highest. Remember, these are my opinions based on the way I use the vacuum in my home. You may have a different experience.

Filtration

Based on my experience with the Maytag's excellent filter bags, sealed system, and filter system, I give the vacuum a 4.5/5 on filtration. I deducted half a point because the bag doesn't develop a complete seal when installed which can allow some dust to escape into the bag compartment, although not much.

Carpet Cleaning

With the Maytag's excellent airflow and suction, amazing agitation and grooming action, and ability to pick up deep down grit and dust, I give the Maytag a 5/5 for carpet cleaning. Based on my use, there simply isn't a vacuum that will out clean the Maytag.

Floor Cleaning

With the dual motor system and the ability to turn off the brush roll, the Maytag is in a unique position. Not only does it have a motor that cleans carpets very well, it also sports a suction motor that provides good cleaning of bare floors. Overall, I give the Maytag a 4/5 for bare floor cleaning as it is a bit awkward to get around corners and doesn't clean floors quite as well as a dedicated suction cleaner.

Use of Tools

Overall, the tools are quite easy to use. With the twist of a dial you can go from carpet cleaning to dusting your shelves. While the hose does reach 16 feet, there is a considerable amount of tension which makes it more difficult to use. Additionally, the Maytag comes with a standard horse hair dusting tool which can be turned into an upholstery tool. Overall, I give the tool setup and use a 4/5.

Versatility and Ease of Use

Given the Maytage has both a direct air motor and a bypass motor, it makes the Maytag one of the most versatile vacuums on the market. No longer do you have to choose between suction, airflow and agitation. The dual motor system allows the Maytag to stand up to the most difficult of cleaning tasks with relative ease. Going from carpet mode to tool mode is as easy as turning a dial. Using the upright on hard floors is a cinch as the touch of a button turns the brush roll off and makes it simple to switch from carpets to floors. Overall, the Maytag is one of the most versatile machines on the market. In terms of ease of use, a few changes could make vacuuming with the Maytag an even more pleasant experience. The Maytag is fairly heavy and not recommend for those who are unable to life 30+ pounds. Additionally, the Maytag can be difficult to push, depending on the carpet and height setting. Moreover, I would like to see a swivel neck on the machine, some sort of power drive to make pushing the cleaner easier, and electronic motor adjustment for the bypass motor to make using the tools on delicates a possibility. Overall, I give the Maytag a solid 4/5 on versatility and ease of use.

Overal Score: 4.3 B+
