I picked this machine up at an estate sale two weeks ago for the nice price of $5. As you can see, it was absolutely filthy and gross. However, underneath all that nastiness, I saw a beautiful Kirby. With very minimal scratches, it didn't appear to need any unobtanium parts, so today, I decided to test my skills and give this machine an extreme makeover. Mind you, I already had a nice D50, but it's scratched up and stuff. After 5 hours of hard work, I'm very happy at how it turned out. Yes, I did put on a genuine Kirby replacement bag, as the old one was in very good shape, and I think it should be preserved.

One of

The best Kirbys ever I think....The first 2 D-50s sold by the local Kirby dealer in my hometown when they went in business in 1967 are sTILL BEING USED by the original owners!

Great job!

What a steal of a price, too! As long as the scratches are not too deep, these usually clean up and shine up very well. This fall I will be completely rebuilding my mom's D50 that she bought in '65 and is still in daily duty today. I will also be building up my own D50 from 2 1/3 junky parts units - should be interesting!
These are my favorite Kirby's...
