Hello all

my Royal 880 has arrived in Sydney...all the way from the USA! What a great piece of hardware it is.. running it off a transformer of course, I couldn't be happier. It is the 4.5 amp model. I've been searching for a user manual online but no luck. Can someone advise how often it needs to be oiled? I understand non detergent sae 30 oil is the go.

Thanks

Matthew

That oil is ONLY to be used in a Bronze Sleeve Bearing. Ball bearings (silver colored) need high temperature #2 Grease.

Royal oil

OK ...here is the real deal on the Royal oil...

Use only SAE 30 NON-DETERGENT Oil. Add only 2 drops...AND DO NOT TURN THE MACHINE ON FOR A FEW HOURS until the wick--yes there is a wick of sort inside the machine bearing that needs time to absorb the oil. If you don't wait, the oil just splashes around.....and can damage the armature if it gets on it.

The reason why sewing machine oil and 3-in 1 oils don't work
well (or, at all) is because they are thin, and contain detergents which are left behind once the oil burns off. This detergent then becomes (or is) sticky and thus attracts dirt.

WD-40 is great on many things. However, it is not a lubricant but rather a water evacuator. Do not use it.

What I am telling you is directly from the mouth of a Royal guru who is a member of our club. So this is not my opinion. This Royal Dealer and repair specialist really does know his stuff!

Thanks guys that's brilliant. I didn't know the brush roll height was adjustable also.

I assume the 880 has the bronze sleeve bearing, not the ball bearings mentioned in the manual for some motors?

Finally, the adjust o right button doesn't pop in when I adjust the height of the vacuum head...any advice?

Thanks again

Matthew

Matt,

As far as I am concerned, if the AOR plate doesn't work, all I can say is the original belt is worn out. The other clue to listen to when you adjust the height will be the sound of the brush bristles contacting the carpet. When you first hear the bristles touching down, adjust your Rite-Hite about one more clockwise turn, but not too deep that it makes the cleaner hard to push (which would also shorten belt life).
