I have a RICCAR Simplicity RSL3. I love it. It was given to me. I'd never heard of it. 8 lbs. It's wonderful! I recently ran up/over aluminum edging that is at the front door. Done that a hundred times, but that time it also instantly made the most horrifically loud noise. Turned out it broke a blade off the impeller/fan. $20 and good as new.

NOW I made the mistake of going into my daughter's room and sucked up something metal. It looked like a screw or similar. VERY loud crack as it hit inside the plastic. Hot smell right away. & I believe it was gearing down as I was frantically turning it off.

I'm hoping it is the belt but it's still on & doesn't look melted. I'm trying to figure out what it might be and how to go about determining what's wrong and fixing it nyself. I cannot afford to take it into a repair shop.

A long time ago The same thing happened and the vacuum was ruined. I'm having trouble remembering what it was. Cracked the housing? Not sure. Any suggestions or advice is greatly appreciated. I'm afraid to turn it back on. I want to check it out but do not know what to check or how to go about it,

Thanks all.

I wonder if your Fan is broken or Jammed? Tom Gasko would be best able to help, or one of our shop owners. These are very easy to work on if you can get the parts handy.

Yes sounds like the fan. There is a video on YouTube showing how to change the fan.

It's not a difficult job.

It's the fan

Very easy to do.

Sometimes it could be that the fan has either broke, the metal shard is just stuck on the fan and not broken, or it could be both.

The fan should look like this when it's taken apart.
