Hi all,
First off, it has been ages since the last time, but I'm glad to be back! Although I hadn't posted for way too long, I never forgot about vacuum cleaners or this site this site. I still visited and enjoyed the terrific vacuums you all have to share. It's great being among those who understand my hobby. Anyways, the reason for this thread is that I wanted to share with you all the cord I came across and installed on my Hoover C1403, making it as close as I can get it to restored. This cord is a NOS discontinued Genuine Hoover Commercial 35 foot cord part number 46368005, which is would have come with the vacuum when it was sold. I finally ditched the 17 foot non-original grey Hoover Elite 200 cord that came installed on the C1403 when I bought it. Although I made a thread about this 1991 Hoover C1403 a couple of years ago, I thought I would give a few details about this machine for those who might be curious to know more about it. The C1403 was Hoover's commercial version of the Hoover Elite 200. It was part of Hoover's orange commercial lineup and was produced for a seemingly short period of time before it was replaced by the C1404. This vacuum is similar to both of its closest siblings, the Elite 200 and the C1404, but with a few interesting differences. Differences from the white and grey residential Elite 200: -Sealed ball bearings support both ends of the armature in the C1403 whereas the Elite 200's armature was supported by a ball bearing on the fan side and a needle bearing on the belt side, I believe. This made the C1403 "heavy duty" and smoother running. -I believe the C1403 may have harder carbon brushes than the Elite 200 does, increasing service life. -The C1403 has a large, immovable commercial-style upper cord hook which doubles as a maid cart hook. I imagine the larger upper hook was intended to also be able to hold the entire cord in a looped circle. -The C1403 cord is a longer 35 feet and made with thicker insulation and a stronger strain relief. Presumably, the orange color was necessary to make it OSHA approved and visible lest people trip over it. Differences from its replacement, the black commercial C1404: -Slide-top bag, much like the Elite 200 versus the side-zip bag on the C1404 -5 amp motor on the C1403 versus a 7.1 amp motor on the C1404 -Single-row brush roll on the C1403 instead of a double row brush which comes on the C1404 -The C1403 has an Elite 200 style rounded hood without a door -The C1403 was made in the USA before Hoover was acquired by TTI. All I really had to do to this machine was clean it up. Surprisingly, it is in quite nice shape; most commercial machines get beat to a pulp and subsequently thrown away. Even the delicate screen-printed "HOOVER" logo on the bag is flawless. Virtually all of it is original except for the fan, which was replaced with a NOS 38755030, as what would have come with it new. Obviously the cord is new, too. The only other part I had to replace is the outer motor housing with a NOS part for a C1404. After a new Hoover belt and a genuine Hoover synthetic white cloth HEPA Type A bag, it was good to go! Now the machine runs great and cleans well. I feel fortunate to have it, and as far as I have seen, this is the only one in a vacuum collection. Enjoy the pictures! broomvac | ||
