Just a reminder the annual VCCC convention will be on June 22-24th in Tulsa, OK. Houston Conner has graciously opened his home to host a pool party and to see his collection of vacuums and other vintage items.  Please see the revised schedule of events on the VCCC website (click the link below). Hope to see you in Tulsa!

Yes Phillip its close. It’s nice that we have our convention in a different place every year and can see other member’s homes/collections. Phillip, myself and few others have been planning the VCCC convention since last year and will have some additional door prizes this year. We will also have the raffle this year as well.

Joe Kassock and I are looking into DRIVING!!

gottahaveahoove's profile picture
If there's anyone else around us interested, I'm sure it will be an experience.
These conventions are ALWAYS great.
It's a great time to reconnect, meet new folks, share, learn, etc. The V.C.C.C. is a great club, groups of great people who share a passion for vacuums, etc. THere has only been one V.C.C.C., although it has evolved over the years, as does everything. It has never disbanded and a new one generated from scratch. If anyone is interested, I urge you to check us out.
Happy Hoovering...............
John

I'll be registering next week. Joe is getting back to me on the trip. It's far, but SO worth the trip. It's great to see everyone again, share good times, a meal, develop new friendships. Mostly very drama free.
Hoping to see you all at the good old V.C.C.C. again this year.

I didn’t actually create the photo. My friend Houston did. I thought it looked nice! Everything is shaping up to be a wonderful convention. I’m looking forward it! We have several activities planned (see the Schedule of Events). We are going to three collectors homes this year. We also have several nice thrift stores in Tulsa and a BIG flea market! There will be plenty of things to do and places to see!

These vacuums are free to those who attend the VCCC Convention in Tulsa! I will probably add some more to the pile as I continue to go through them. As always we will have a big free/ for sale pile at the convention.

Kenny,
Thank you for all your hard work for this upcoming convention! I love Houston's adverts for our official club meeting! I'm looking forward to seeing Phillip's collection and his homestead...though I'll do my best to keep his chickens out of my Volvo, as it violates my warranty. A pool party sounds like fun, though I don't know if I'll let out my one piece swimsuit or just wear a very large sunhat. I'm looking forward to seeing old friends, young and old, and meeting new collectors.

I'll be driving, with Brett, from Santa Fe. While I have an official vacuum room in my new, 60 year old, home...I still have a few too many vacuums for my smaller living arrangements. I'll be bringing some gorgeous GE swivel tops, a bunch of Hoover hoses and wands, as well as attachments for a variety of machines. I'll be selling much paper, including shops manuals, supplier catalogs, retail catalogs, and manufacturer paper. Did I say paper?
I'm looking forward to being in Tulsa...words I don't say often.
Lets hear from some of the other attendees...
Sean Curry

Sean,
I told Shaylee that if she let the chickens out that day I was going to tie her up and leave her in the storm celler lol The chickens will be put up. The famous Pugs however will meet and greet for a bit. Please make sure you rub Ivory's belly it's very important to her.

I'm so excited for this year.... Oh and ps. not only do the chickens void warranty, they also kill the trade in value but only on Volvos. I didn't get squat out of my Volvo

Trying

To see if I can get the days off. I want to go, but, it's a 16 hour drive from here in NC. The room is also quite expensive, I don't have a disposable income, sadly lol. So, I would need to room with someone or would need to figure something out. I don't want to miss out on another convention.

I'm getting excited but also saying whoa slow down I still have much to do.
I almost have the upright room finished or at least temporarily finished. I may just stop where its at now because I really need to get the vacuums out of storage and serviced. Please understand these rooms were thrown together quickly for the convention and may not be quite perfect. It was a huge undertaking building the upright and canister rooms. The canister room I still need to knock out one wall to open it up more, paint, carpet, finish risers, and get vacuums set up. I'm getting electric hooked up tonight so I can now work in there at night. woohoo.

Some of the local members here have offered to come by and help me get the vacuums serviced and with that help I may just be able to pull this off.

And, don't worry too much about the house. We're going to see 'you'. A house is a never -ending project. Mine is a prime example of that. Still soooooo much to do.

Get Here

John,
In the beautiful words of Oleta Adams..."just get here if you can". More that seeing the collections and playing with the vacuums, I'm most looking forward to reconnecting with fellow collectors and sharing laughter and good times. Despite our differences I have a found affection for the men and women, young and old, I've met through the VCCC. It's not by accident that I have become involved in this group and formed attachments and deep friendships.
Best wishes to all,
Sean Curry
P.S. If you truly want to be moved by a woman's voice go to YouTube and check out Oleta Adams. The depth and sincerity of her voice is awe inspiring.

So very disappointed.........

papasvacs's profile picture

Looks like I am not going to make the convention this year.

Purely a matter of economics (or lack thereof!).  Airfares from Lauderdale are prohibitive.

All the nonsense with Kevin has drained my finances (and it's still not over, as he continues to fight everything).  He sued me for legal costs and won!  Costing me thousands of dollars.

The trip to Buffalo in March when my Dad passed was quite costly.

AND..... there's the puppy.

Sadie came to live with us about 6 weeks ago.  She is a blue nosed Pitt and the cutest thing you ever saw.  She is the light of my life.  You can't beat the unconditional love of a pup.  But boarding her for the time I would be gone adds to the cost.

Know that I will miss you all so very much.  I've made some terrific friends in the VCCC and was looking so forward to Tulsa.  It really hurts to have to make these "adult" decisions.

Have a great time, think of me and enjoy the events!

Greg

It will be fantastic to reunite with you, too. WE ALWAYS have a great time. Yes, indeed, I've made life-long friends through this VCCC. I've also been able to see a lot of the U.S.through the VCCC.
Some of these friendships are very special to me. Some people, I only see once a year. Others, I see often. I've hosted many mini meets, and have had great times.
Some really enjoy coming back to my home, some even staying there. Some will never do that again. They've made fun of me (not good fun), at MY expense....doing things, mocking me, etc. They've eaten their last meal, spent their last night, and attended their last mini meet..To quote Miss Joan Crawford, "For reasons which are well known to them".
So, in a few short weeks, we'll all be together in TULSA, OKLAHOMA.
YAY!

I'm so very sorry you won't be able to attend but use this time to relax and reflect on good vibes and try to forget about all the crap, it will eventually be over. Yes we will think of you and miss you.

Sean, I remember the first time I met you and thought holy cow who's this person, I could listen to him tell a story ALL DAY and then have my sides stitched up from side splitting laughter. I'm so glad to call you my friend and care for you very much.

John, same as above. I can listen to you ALL DAY too. Remember Mel Brooks and Carl Riener the 2000 year old man where the two of them would totally ad lib and entire dialog? You two could so do that and make $$millions.
Thank you all for being in my life. Lots of love to you all and I can't wait to see you.

The very few people in the world that are interested in vacuums would somehow be able to keep such a great convention focused on the machines rather than petty squabbles and personality differences. Vacuum enthusiasts are so rare that everyone should just appreciate each others company.

If I would ever choose to attend such an event, I would certainly be greatly disappointed to witness high levels of drama.

John,
For a moment I thought that was the plot line for a very special episode of "Blossom"...or was it the "The Nanny"? Either way I'm sure we will need our tap shoes, ballet flats, and sensible loafers for all the adventures that Kenny, Houston and Phillip have planned for the VCCC members.

Some will...some won't

John,
As long as we can laugh at ourselves, who else needs to join in? A sense of humor is mandatory in my career, personal life, and is reflected in what I collect. Vacuums are one thing, but have I told you about my vintage Thermos (or Thermi as some refer to them as), yardsticks with advertising, airline timetables, or luggage sets? I had to laugh to keep from crying as I packed up what came with me from Ft Worth to Santa Fe, and then unpacked it...and them realized it didn't all fit in my new old house! But enough about me...Kenny, how many VCCC members are registered for the convention?
Please let us know!
Sean
P.S. I used my Hoover 51 to vacuum off the front porch of my 1957 house (age appropriate I thought), and one of my neighbors slowed his Subaru down to admire the view and said "Nice tank cleaner"...was he talking about me or the Aerodyne...I may never know!

That is unusual and yet, interesting.

gottahaveahoove's profile picture
A few years ago, I took out a wall in my house. Several things fell out onto the floor. One was an old yardstick from the "Pittston Paint and Wallpaper Company'. long out of business. I also have one from a store from a chain managed by my late brother. I've kept both, of course. You just never know what you'll find, or whom else appreciates it.

Yardsticks galore...

Jimmie,
I'm pretty sure I don't have an Electrolux yardstick, but my collection 'measures up' nonetheless! I have an assortment from appliance stores, furniture stores, dept stores, hardware stores, and mom & pop shops too. A unique one is from my employer, American Airlines, when they introduced 747s on their domestic routes in 1970 and it was used by travel agents to describe attributes of the then spacious cabins. Besides being fun to look at a practical use of the multitudes is to help plan furniture placement in a room using the yardsticks as a 'schematic' on the floor.
Have a great Wednesday,
Sean
P.S. John-contrary to the hearsay, I have not used my yardsticks to surround any deceased person on my Karastan carpeting in lieu of police tape.

So many Compacts...

Phillip,
Thank you so much for all the work you are putting in to make your collection available to the VCCC members. I'm glad those vacuums are so 'compact' so they would fit in the back of your pick up truck. Shall I assume one of your chickens are driving? Or just giving directions? It looks so lush and green there, a bit different from here.
Looking forward to your hospitality,
Sean

Me too! Bill knows his Kirbys after all he owns an authorized Kirby repair center. I know some of our club members will go home with treasures this year. In fact we might be overwhelmed with vacs this year in addition to our big for sale and free piles. It's going to be a wonderful convention! And it's less than two weeks away!

Hope to see you all in Tulsa,

I know you will feel at home in my kitchen with the Hoover blender, can opener, mixer and electric knife if we need it. Hopefully, we can whip up something for a dessert as well.

Bring your own spatula party...

John and Kenny,
You may need more than two Hoover Skillets to prepare a meal for 40 hungry VCCC members! John maybe you can bring one or two with you, tell the TSA it's your service animal or wear it as a hat. If Jackie could wear a wool pill box hat you can wear stainless steel! I would bring my chafing dishes but I think I misplaced them in the move, the last time I saw them in Texas Barbie and Midge were using one as a therapeutic pool.
See everyone in in two weeks and two days!!!
Sean

Alex,
It's hard to believe only two years ago you hosted the VCCC at your wonderful home in Ferguson. Picking through your garage and basement was so much fun. Seeing your collection was great also. I still have the GE Swivel Top you where kind enough to give me. Are you taking orders from your supply? I'll be selling a lot of paper myself including M. Wards catalogs, vac parts catalogs, manufacturer paper, and vintage home magazines. Let me know if you are interested in anything.
Looking forward to seeing you and everyone else soon,

I went to the post office. $79.00 to ship a BOX !!!!!
So, I may be checking a bag. Outrageous.
But, the shirts, gloves, hazmat suit (kidding) (?) etc are all packed.
Some people never got the 'glove thing'. That's unfortunate.
I'll be helping Kenny cook, and will bake something. Maybe, if he likes, I'll even make that famous (notorious) "Pittston Hospital Iced Tea". I've started making it again, as it is so hot now. Most people love it. Only one of my friends doesn't prefer it. That's OK, too.

We just arrived at hotel for early check in. Shaylee worked all night and I was up all night trying to get it all done. My mom has been a huge help with getting things done, you will all get to meet Mommy and she just may be making dessert for Friday. We are going to take a nap for a while as we are dead tired.
The last 2 weeks have been hugely stressful with my contractor not showing up, then when he did show up just left piles of junk everywhere. He didn't come at all this week even though he was supposed to finish the area where we will eat. So last second change of plans and we will now eat in another room lol also I couldn't get all the vacuums unpack from storage until he was done with electric. I finally gave up this week and got them unpacked. They are not polished or serviced and you will have to check for a bag before playing with anything but hey its all good. Finally my father in law late last night got part of the electrical done so we will have light and air in the mini meet room. Thank God I can relax.

Well, finally am able to post!!!!

gottahaveahoove's profile picture
It's been a whirlwind! SOOOOO much fun, so many activities.
It's now over. Most people are on their way home now. My flight doesn't leave until 6:00 p.m.
A lot of us arrived Wed p.m. The hotel is fantastic!
Thursday morning, a few of us went to B.M.X. Gary's. A lot of us have bought things from him in the past. We got to go to his place. However, one sad, actually 'pathetic' incident occured. BEFORE we got there, someone who discovered we were going to visit Gary contacted him, telling HIM not to let US in his place. A few unpleasant things were said. However, Gary and his wife were, first, dumbfounded, then laughed. AND, then, he welcomed us all in to search everywhere for treasures. And, we did. IF we had more time, and better lighting, we'd have found more. We all left with fun things. A great time, indeed. It only got better after that. We had our board meeting at Kenny Loveland 's home. I made home made cupcakes and gallons of "Pittston Hospital Iced Tea".
Then, the next day, we were off to Phillip's and Shaylee's place. So rural, so much potential, so much construction. We enjoyed a great lunch, saw SO many machines, etc.
Then, on to Houston's and Scott's beautiful home. Again, a great meal, a beautiful pool, we even were entertained with showtunes on a pump organ. (I'm sure it was never intended for that!) Miss Tania even resembled Miss Esther Williams,in the beautiful in ground pool... competing with Sean Curry .. ( who replicates a mean Million Dollar Mermaid). Next day, amidst, meetings, contests, vacccum fun, flea markets, etc, onto kenny's beautiful 1960's period home. Again, we enjoyed tacos, tortilllas, dips, salsa, iced tea, cupcakes ,etc.
Saturday also saw meetings, excellent discussions, elections, a banquet, (yes, it was a banquet), great contests, including a super fab trivia contest, also, an interesting Kirby clinic, executed by (Dr. Kirby, himself), the one and only Bill Edstrom, with the help of a loyal assistant..... followed by a nice bowl of celebratory Cheetos. (More on that later).
Ken Wagman was awarded the annual Ruth Hollander award for outstanding service to The V.C.C.C., the original vacuum cleaner collectors' club. As you can see, nothing could douse the spirits of attendees of The V.C.C.C.
More details soon.
To put it mildly, a GREAT time was had by all!

before I left for the airport. I made 3 batches of it for the party. Either people really liked it, OR, they were VERY thirsty.
I hope you enjoy it, Kenny.

Looking forward to lots more photos.
It was a fast-paced, yet stress-free convention, for the most part.
The election results will be posted soon, too, I hope.
Today, back to reality.
Actually, today, our department at the college had it's final 'meeting' for the year. It was a picnic on the picnic grounds of the college. Early this a.m., I went to the store to get some fruit. I ,made a fresh fruit salad.
I spied, in the corner, a Hoover Convertible. Our secretary, Kim, found it at a church flea market, thought of me, and brought it. How kind, she is!

Anyone questioning value???

What an INCREDIBLE Convention!!  This was clearly among the most memorable of all the Conventions I have attended, probably second only to Hoover/2008.  From my arrival at the Hotel where Michael and I joined others for a 'pre-Convention' dinner close by, to the arranged Hoover/vacuum warehouse on Thursday to our incredible outings at three unique and memorable homes/collections, it was a non-stop marathon of enjoyment and camaraderie!  There is no doubt that the "Vacuum Room" is always a major perk and major draw where people congregate, share, catch up, and can be voyeurs of a really wide variety of cleaners of all ages, makes, and styles.  I cannot imagine any convention without that room/gathering place (all of which HAS value) though I suppose you could assemble in a partitioned portion of some company's warehouse.  And while Hoover and Electrolux especially light me up, I enjoyed so much more.  Tania shared one of the nicest Lewyt 55's I have seen since I was a kid looking in other peoples' closets (that would have been at least 20 years ago...!) The culmination of the Convention with the banquet (I thought I had died and gone to heaven with that chocolate mouse cake) and the awards + raffle (I was lucky enough to win an immaculate, late-model FQ) all contributed to the best $90.00 I have ever spent. (Special note: The VCCC Banquet is included but does not come with a Happy Meal toy.)   I already have my sights set on Spokane and to that end, I will begin setting aside my $ 7.50 per month to reach that registration goal.  Short of a motel room with that very special someone, I cannot think of a better value for the cost of admission that includes SO MUCH.

My sincere thanks to our planners, Barb, Chad, and Kenny and hosts Phillip/Shayley, Kenny, and Houston/Scott for an outstanding Convention!  Kuddos!

I'm not on Facebook, so, I usually can't see anything in there. Just think; a week ago, we were at BMX Garry's. then onto other fun activities. It truly was wonderful. Thanks, again, Kenny, for all of your hard work and everyone else's.
That convention was a triumph.... absolutely NO drama of any kind, once that unfortunate, embarrassing event at Garry's.
To quote Rick B,'It was the best $90.00 spent". What do you get for that? Simply put: A LOT!

during your Kirby clinic. The 'contamination gown', etc. was from Philly. The matching gloves were from Bill himself. Some thought it was humorous (most). Some were waiting to see what would happen this time. Some new people didn't get it due to no background info.
We'll see who gets a nasty letter now. It won't bother me at all.
Everything we all did in Oklahoma AND Kansas was done is good, honest fun..... and, at no one else's expense. the way it always should be.
Isn't it great to see where other members live? To see their collections? ETC?

She was WONDERFUL to us when we went to St. Louis.

You give GOOD MEETING (Convention)!!  I believe I will return next June for another round!  Hope it was as good for you as it was for me.

I am SO sorry that I had to change my plans at the last minute, and was not able to attend the meeting. It was a big disappointment, because I was looking forward to seeing everyone. I was with you all in spirit. It is great to see you all in these pictures. I hope to be able to make it to Spokane next year.

Thanks for the great pics...

Kenny,
Thank you for posting all those great pics, it's hard to believe that two weeks ago today I was listening to the soundtrack of "Oklahoma" while headed eastbound on I-40! Phillip and Shaylee, it was great to see your collection in its entirety...thank you both for all your hard work. Houston and Scott, thank you both for welcoming all of us to your home and entertaining us with a variety of musical devices. Kenny, thanks for all the work you did for the convention and hosting us at your house. The side trip to Oklahoma city was fun and we where blessed by great weather.
I hope everyone got home without delay or inconvenience.
Sean

Ditto!

I echo everything Sean and everyone has said about the convention! I had a great time as I always do. I have been a member since '06 and have only missed some here and there for reasons not in my control. Everybody puts their hearts into it and works very hard to make it enjoyable. It would be hard to find a nicer group of people!

Shaylee and I were so blessed to have all of you at our home!!! Thank you so much for coming. I can't wait to post pics of when it's all finished.
Sean, I hate to admit this but the collection wasn't quite in it's entirety..... Yes theres more that I didn't have time to bring from storage. There were a lot of empty spaces in the canister room. All of my Electrolux cleaners were missing and all of my Kirby vacs were put away as well as a small plethora of miscellaneous vacuums. maybe a total of 80 vacuums were not present....... Hi my name is Phillip and I'm a hoarder haha

All 5 of the Pugs (oldest to youngerst, Champ, Johnny, June, Ebony and Ivory) were very sorry their lame Daddy ran out of time to pick them up from the sitter so they could meet everyone. They told me to tell you all bark bark bark sniff sniff lick lick sneeze
