I have got my Hoover U4147 ranger vac from a Dutch site, it is in very good condition, I have cleaned it up and it is really hardly used, the brushes are very good (but I cant get the end spindles off no matter how hard I try to turn them??) also the rubber belt is very perished and throws itself off the ridge in the middle of the beater bar, when I put a new belt on it will it stop this? it makes a terrible burning rubber smell if I run it with this belt. thanks

Hello, congratulations, I love that convertible, it was very rare over here, I have one too. To remove the brushroll endcaps you should be able to unscrew them holding one with your right hand and twisting the other with a counter-clockwise turn. Sometimes spraying some ws5 between the brushroll and the endcaps allows easier unscrewing. Once you've done this you should be able to give all the elements a good clean up. Note that the brushroll should rotate freely and smoothly when mounted. A new belt will complete it all and the cleaner will run fantastic!
I hope this helps!
Tommy

yes, its a nice machine, it is from Holland, got it for only €42 including postage, cleaned it up completely, its hardly used and even the beater brush is hardly used, I did get it apart only only threads around the end caps, bearings all fine, just need to get a pair of Senior rubber belts, only 99p in england but €11 in Holland!! The bag is a bit disappointing as it is a vynil plastic thing and not really the density or strength of the British cloth bags, but it does that the high fitting siphon bag which is quite good, ordered some special bags for it too, I just hope the new belt wont ride out of the ridge in the beater bar, thanks Amateursewing
