So, my aunt recently threw away her Riccar American Contempo (pic 1). Quick history on this vacuum- She purchased it around (1996?) and used it up until around 2009, when she moved into a new house. New house meant new vacuum, because it was getting worn, and chewing through belts. So, she purchased a Sebo X4 (pic 2), and a Miele S7 Salsa (pic 3). She was going to use both for a week and return one after. Well she was very quick to get rid of her Miele because the handle snapped off with minimal use in 1 WEEK! So, the Riccar moved to garage and car duty, while the Sebo got used on the new carpet, tile, and laminate mix. All has been well since that time almost 8 years ago. I recently refurbished the Sebo for her. When I went into the garage, I was perplexed. I have been greeted by the Green Riccar ever since the Sebo came around, but it wasn't there. When I asked her about it, she said after consideration, she had to part with her Riccar. At first, i was disappointed, but I don't blame her. It needed a cord, bag door, hose, handle release, and brush strips. She told me "That thing lasted me 20 years, and it worked better than my Sebo that costed $700! The Riccar was only $300, I wonder if they make the same one still." I told her "Yes! They do! It's not exactly the same, but it is very similar (pic 4)." So she said that is first up when she is done with her Sebo.
Just thought this might be a fun little story to tell.

I was just getting on here to try to find some info on this very vacuum. I seen one for sale on the Facebook marketplace for $40. It looks to be in great shape and if all goes as planned I will be getting it Friday. Seems like they are excellent machines from reading your post!

These are excellent machines. The sister model to this Riccar 4812 is the Simplicity 6570. They are the same machines but the only differences besides the name, the looks, and the color is that the Simplicity has a looped handle and the Simplicity uses spring loaded wheels with wheels on the nozzle. The Riccar only has wheels on the body of the vacuum just like what Panasonic and other competitive brands have used before as well.
