Hello all,

So, it has been a while since I posted on here or indeed got any additions to my collection, however, I have a "new" vac I just got today, that some of you may like, I have spent most of the afternoon restoring it.

It is an Electrolux TwinTurbo Electronic Deluxe Z561 it is in a stunning blue colour, not sure of the official name of the colour but it is like an air force blue.

I have fully stripped it down and bathed it, to execute the 30 odd years of filth!

Here are some before photos of what it looked like when I received it and the stripping down leading to the clean parts drying. (After photos to come)

Here is a video prior to restoring of what it enitially runs like.

Thank you for reading,

Alex.

I am always amazed at how much dirt gets inside these Electrolux 500 series brushrolls!

That is all for now.

Just need to clean up the cord and service the motor and it will be ready to go back together.

I got some new brush strips, belts, bags and filters for it, so really will be like new! 😀

After restoration photos to come! 😊

Alex.

Indeed.

It is a shame you don't see cleaners as good and classy as the old ones. 😞 At least we can still get hold of the vintage ones and preserve them. 😃

Cord cleaned up nicely and I servinced the motor - cleaned it's fans, which were caked in dust, causing the vibration as heard in my "before video", I also lubricated the bearings, so it will run a bit smoother...It won't be perfect as they are a bit worn, however, there is not a whole lot I can do about that I am aftaid, these motors were not designed to be overhauled.

Should sound pretty good now...All ready for re assembly tommorow! 😊

Alex.

I was never really a fan of the later Turbo2 style, not keen on the cleaner head design, the earlier version of the Turbo 2 branded Twin Turbo was nice though, that was a deep grey colour.

Nice pics, Mike.

the much later turbo2

turbo500's profile picture
Actually, that particular Turbo2 (the z1065) isn't that much later. They came out in 89 and ran until late 1990 when they were replaced by the Glider.

The 1065 and more basic 1055 sold so well in back-stock (there were a few exclusives around at this time too, which also sold well) that Lux brought back this style as the even more basic 1070 which ran until 1995. Towards the end of it's run, it was an absolute bargain - £49.99 with the toolkit.

Hold onto that one, Michael, the z1065 is getting rare these days. The 1055's seem to crop up more often and even then, they're yellowed to buggery! For some reason, the 1055 and 1065 always yellowed heavily compared with the 1070 which didn't discolour at all.

Alex, the 561 has come up great! Good job!

Now there's a vacuum with edge cleaning on both sides!
That's what I'd like to see all manufacturers do 😉

you are very diligent about your restorations! You did a super job.
And, I'm not an Electrolux guy at all. That machine looks like a nicer model than some 'over here'.
As far as having your tool out, well.. I could say plenty. And, I might. One should always have it 'at the ready'. That's all for now, loll.

Oh I don't miss a bit John, strip em right down and I reach every knock and cranny, with multiple dinge removing tools.

I wouldn't say I was that talented, but I do like to explore new models, which my hands help me with, so I would be lost without them!! I am a Hoover guy at heart but I have currently crossed over to the dark side known as Electrolux...I am sure it is temporary! Lol.

I love the Twin Turbo 561, that and the 550 are my favourite Lux Uprights of the 500 model series.
