So I got my vac back from my Sister who said it "stop working/ dust was excaping".

Upon further inspection I found a known problem part had broken. I am talking about a "nub" that engages the "valve switch over dial" (for switching back and forth from wand to floor), had broken off.

So I made a few attempts using a crudely fashioned piece to replace the nub. First time it failed.

In the meantime, a guy gave me a DC24 which was completely trashed to be used for parts. I dismantled it yesterday to sort what to keep and what to trash.

This morning, I looked again at the parts and guessed at a part that could be reused. With the use of a Dremel and a few other tools, I was able to fashion a replacement for the sheared off nub.

Picture 1 shows the sheared off part. Picture 2 shows the donor part.

So far, it works. I will keep this as my daily driver because it really CLEANS.

I have had one 6+ years much daily use because its easy, but I don't find it does carpet well at all. Still enjoy it though.Nothing has broken but I did have to change the filters at about 4 years due to reduced air flow
