Saw this at a Goodwill for $8 and I thought "how bad could it be?" In the end, all it needed (besides removing the awful mold smell and many scratches) was a belt and HEPA bag. It even came with the original manual.

Since this machine somewhat resembles a Riccar/Simplcity, which came first, the Panny or the Tacony? Who made who (AC/DC)?

Here's the before pics...

And Here's The After Pics

It sounds moderately pleasant and has fabulous tool airflow (think 115 CFM from the hose). Water lift was OK, measuring 71" from the hose end with a bag installed.

Can Anybody Tell Me When This Vacuum Was Made?

I can't easily determine the year from this label, but I do know the manual shows a copyright year of 2008. Also, what was the original list price for this Platinum? Was it around $200 or $300 or I am way off?

I don't think that the Platinum branding was used before the year 2000. And I don't think Panasonic moved assembly from Danville to Mexico until the last decade either. Seems to be a relatively new vac from within the last 10 to 15 years - not much older.

To answer who came first between Panasonic or Riccar = Panasonic. Riccar later copied Panasonic, before that Riccar used to be made by Panasonic.

The first Platinum models were sold in the late 90's. I liked these first Platinum models the best because I really liked that gorgeous hunter green color on them.
