Yesterday my friend Roger who is a piano tuner came by to tune our piano. He brought a young friend with him named Michael who's visiting from Texas. Roger is also a vacuum cleaner collector and brought along one of the gems of his collection, a mint-condition Air-Way.

After he finished tuning the piano, he demonstrated the Air-Way on a small throw rug. It's amazing how much a straight-suction cleaner can pick up!

Then we had a delicious dinner prepared by Arlee of Chicken Adobo, one of the staples of Filipino cuisine. Then as we sat and chatted after dinner, Roger mentioned that Michael is a very fine pianist. After a bit of coaxing he sat down and played several rags, none of which I was familiar with.

I told him, "I have a brother who was a phenomenally talented pianist who, a few years ago, released a CD entitled 'Rags to Riches.'"

He gave me a very astonished look and said, "Noel Lester!"

I said, "Yes, he was my brother."

He said, 'Rags to Riches' was the very first ragtime CD I ever purchased. It's really great -- I love it!"

I felt the hair on the back of my neck tingle, and I could tell from Arlee's expression that the same was happening to him.

I told Michael, "Noel passed away in November."

Michael said, "Oh, I'm so sorry to hear that. What a loss. I was hoping to meet him someday."

"A Good Time Was Had By All."

I had no idea Noel passed away. I'm so sorry.

The next time you talk with Roger, you might want to tell him that his Air-Way's rear wheels are on backwards. They should point away from the floor, not toward the floor. It will make it far easier to use.
