Matt,
The F&G bag converter setup was known to greatly reduce the power of the cleaner due to the architecture of the bottom setup. If you replaced this with a Heritage II-style Mini-Emtor setup you will get a lot more power and do less harm to the motor. This is what I did with my Classic III some time back:

I can go with the Heritage bag assembly-works well on any rear discharge Kirby-not top discharge as on G machines.I have one of those F&G outer bags-Horrible design.Chokes off the power of the Kirby. |

I'd propose reconverting it to what Kirby originally had in mind: dump bag. Sani-emptors and the green filter bags are still available. As mentioned above, airflow will improve dramatically. If you like it now, just wait! |

That's exactly what my 1969 D80 still has!
It's not common now... but Matt can still piece together the original shake-out bag for his machine if he looks hard enough for these parts. ~Ben

Well said! Emptors are pretty easy to find, and for some reason I do see DS 80 bags every now and then on Ebay. Amazing!! |

That's how you can tell this is after-market: There was no space between logos. |

I guess I misspoke. I just checked my original DS 80 bag, and the logos are spaced out. |
