DISCLAIMER!: I AM NOT SELLING A MINT ELITE. I DON'T EVEN HAVE AN NIB ELITE. THIS IS JUST TO HEAR PEOPLES POINT OF VIEW.

Hello. If hoover started selling elites and older style vacuums again who would buy one? Keep in mind, there is a 99.9999999999999999999999991% possibility that this will never happen. TTI would have to buy the elite and older model patents from maytag, people probably wouldn't buy it because all people want these days are "Cyclonic" vacuums (Not that there is anything wrong with that, I have a few) and they would modernize it with logos and colors which is not necessarily all that bad.

TTI owns the patents (if any)

Up until a few years ago, TTI was making Elites in the US. I think the factory closed after that. I can almost guarantee you that TTI will never re-release old models of Hoover (with the exception of the Convertible for commercial purposes). They will not compete with the discount store kings. Too heavy, not bagless and too inconvenient. If any company ever DID re-release any old Hoover models, most if not all of the patents must be expired by now.

To answer your first question though

I would consider buying an Elite if they made them again. They were better than the competition: (Eureka Bravo, Singer Poweramp, Dirt Devil Lite, etc..) but they were still loud, had terrible hose suction and didn't filter well (unless you use Y HEPA bags). They are far from the best but I've found that they do clean carpet well and seem to last, despite their generally so-so build quality.

Up until last year our cleaning ladies brought their commercial Hoover Elite upright to vacuum our house. I have to say, it left the nicest vacuum lines on our rugs. They now bring a red commercial Oreck with Endurolife belt. My better half says it looks like our rugs have barely been touched by the Oreck in comparison to the Hoover they used to use. For a brief time we just had them use our central vacuum until they accidently burned up the motor. Long story short, if they were to produce new models I definitely would pick one up!

I have several Elites

I even have a few ofthe "vault Elites".

  THey are loud,  but good.

I remember being told that, when Hoover was stillHoover,  they couldn't make them fast enough.  Oddly, also, they were NEVER supposed to replace Convertibles, but, they did.  Yes, one can still buy a "Convertible".. in the form of "commercial"  cleaners,.  What does THAT tell you about Convertibles?

I repaired so MANY Elites, I don't think I'd take one if they were free. The on/off switch is hard wired to the motor's field coil. Terrible design. They were loud, and belched dust. The fans broke a LOT. Personally, if it were me, I would want a new Convertible before I would an Elite.

And, Cam,

a friend insited on getting me a Hoover for a Christmas gift one year.  ...ANOTHER Elite.  I already had that model, but would never tell him that.  I just had Chris in NY repair his Decade 800, another stellar vac.  Cleans perfectly.  My Elites do, as well. my aunt bought a deluxe one, burgundy, 19 years ago. That hing has had new belts, bulbe,  but that's it.  The inside is as clean as can be.  She doesn't LOVE the little tools, (who does)?.  But,  all in all, a great dust-free machine. ... Made in N. Canton, Ohio, U.S.A.

Hoover Elite

While still Made in America, I always regarded the Elite series as the end of Hoover "as we knew it." I saw many of them tossed out at the curb with broken fan housings. They were an Oreck clone (albeit a more powerful motor) with the ability to have tools. When I worked at Woolworth's we sold the Elite 200 for $69.99 and when it was on sale $59.99. I would be much more intrigued by MINT Convertible RS (the last of the convertible series).

As long

As I can get a Convertible or Eureka with a metal base, a U-4 GE from the 60s or a Royal 801, no one could sell me ANY plastvac, I worked in vac shops when they were new...NO THANKS!

Well if a Hoover Elite upright was to come back then certainly the Hoover PowerMax canister which used the same brush roll should come back! I'd take one of each and have no problem at all. I love Convertibles too. I have a Decade 800 and Convertible Elite.

I love my Hoover WidePath upright!!! Here's a photo of it. I run HEPA Z bags in it and that bag compartment sparkles! I love HEPA bags, I don't have to clean bag compartments or premotor filters anymore.
