While my son was using our 2 speed E2 2007 Rainbow vacuum he said it became sluggish and then stopped working. I replaced the motor, but it only runs on low speed. Could this be related to the switch? The other option is to replace the controller assembly. This cost $300 and I am not willing to spend that kind of money on a 9 year old vacuum.

It is the controller, I work for the distributor in NY. This is usually caused when the thermistor on the board cracks and breaks. It usually is an easy fix however if the thermistor is still good than it would be another component which by then we replace the board. I is VERY RARE that the motor itself will quit as these are rotor stator motors. They are extremely reliable and almost fool proof to diagnose. It is worth getting it fixed or you could contact your local distributor about the trade In policy that they have since a generous discount is usually given or you could email me and I could possibly get you an even better deal on a new warranted machine. Now the last option is that we could also repair the machine for you and put a warrantee on the controller once repaired or replaced.

Michelle, Mike is right on this one, by what you describe it is guaranteed to be a faulty controller.

You say you don't want to spend $300 to repair a 9 year old vacuum? Don't be foolish! Even if you bought the vacuum used & didn't pay full price thru the in-home demonstration, you do realize this is a $3,000 dollar vacuum with a 25 to 30 year life expectancy, right? And if you did replace it with a quality canister vacuum, like a Miele or Sebo, anything even remotely close to the quality & performance of your Rainbow is going to be over $600, & closer to $1,000 new, with a 10 to 15 year life expectancy.

You made the investment in a quality cleaning system, now don't be cheap & just pay the money to get it repaired & have it for many years to come.

That rainbow is a year younger than mine. I bought mine in summer 2006.
Nothing like this for me yet with mine. But if something happened to mine, it so WORTH taking it to get it fixed. I don't even think I would want a trade in.
