Maybe this should have its own thread.

With all of the bad news about Sears recently, I was wondering about their vacuums.

In my opinion, Sears has the best vacuum cleaner department of any department store or big box retailer these days. They have a wide selection of other brands as well as their own Kenmore brand. They promote bagged vacuums heavily, which they are one of the few retailers to do so. They also have a large line of canisters, including full size power nozzle models. There is even a wide selection of bags, belts and filters, as well as attachments, even for older machines.

As well, they are the only retailer I know to have a carpeted vacuum department where you can actually try out the machines. And judging by the dust bins on some, people do try them.

I think other stores like Kohls, Target, Best Buy, Bed Bath and Beyond, Home Depot, Lowes, Walmart could all take some pointers from Sears on vacuums.

It is sad to think that Sears could go out and this would be lost. Many of us such as myself don't have a vacuum store anymore, and Sears is about the best retailer there is. Some will say the quality is not where it was decades ago. I'm not debating that, but they really do beat the rest of the retailers that only offer bagless upright vacuums and maybe one or two tiny canisters, if that. Plus no way to take them down and try them out.

What do you all think about this? Would you be sad to see Sears vacuums of today go?

...just doesn't mean what it used to. Sad to see them circling the drain like that.

I have such childhood memories of going to Sears and seeing all those vacuums (rows and rows).
Our hometown Sears is closing on the 22nd so everything is half off. I went there Tuesday and got this canister for $114. I know it's the non Pano model but I've used it everyday so far and the only fault I can find is the sorry excuse for a floor tool, but I guess Kenmore never really did give you a decent one in my opinion. I did switch out the wands for a telescopic one.
