Happy New Years everyone! I was curious to see what other collectors would use to clean their carpets with. For me, we hire a professional to clean our carpets because we find them to do the best job with using better chemicals, steams carpet to at least 240 degrees, and they use a bigger vacuum to suck most of the water out leaving the carpet damp for only a few hours. In case you guys are wondering which company we hire, we currently hire Stanley Steemers because they complete background checks and drug screens.

I just shampooed my carpet today. I used my Kirby Avalir Shampooer. This is the second time I have shampooed my carpet with the Avalir. I started early today as I only needed to shampoo my large living room, hall, and master bedroom. It has been dry to walk on since around 2 today, however, I will not vacuum until sometime tomorrow afternoon. It's a dry foam shampoo and my carpets look great. I have a burgandy plush in the living room and hall, and hunter green same style in the bedroom. No fuzzing or anything. After vacuuming tomorrow, I will put the Kirby Carpet fluffer on and it will look brand new again.
I also don't have any pets, so spotting isn't a problem for me. The carpet and rug institute has ratings on vacuums including shampooing. I know the carpet mfgs are really cracking down on what vacuums to use on carpet, but I want a vacuum that is going to clean deep down and I do have the stiff brush roll in my Kirby. My mom had a short shag carpet back in the late 60's and 70's. A hoover convertible was used on it and it never wore out, she just got tired of it. PR-21 Bud |

Back when I had carpet throughout my whole downstairs, I used my Bissell Lift-Off Deep Cleaner. It cleaned my carpets pretty well, but didn't bring them back to life.
Part of this was due to the fact that we had pets. Over the years, they have wrecked our carpets, particularly the dogs. As a result, late last year, we started replacing the carpet downstairs with laminate flooring. |

I knew most collectors would use a Kirby to clean their carpets with when I created this thread. I forgot to mention that whenever we get spots on our carpets, I use a Bissell Spot and Stain removal because I think it works really well, even alot faster than our old Bissell little green that's been put into retirement.

Chinese carpets.I sent the big, old ones out to be dunk washed, re-fringed, re-binding, etc. The big stairway and my room are Karastan wall to wall. The staircase is red, my room is white. I use my Hoover steamer on those. They rarely get shampooed. Soon, I'm repainting my room, changing some molding ., making roman shades. I'll definitely be shampooing the white carpet. The Hoover works fine for me.

I use my Hoover Steam Vac, one of the most reliable cleaners on the market. I have owned a Hoover Dual V and it broke within two uses. I own a Bissell Spot Bot for Quick cleanups and a Bissell Proheat as my loaner/rental machine.

I use a Bissell Big Green that I got on sale at Best Buy for $319. I have 3 dogs (I used to have 4, but the 15-1/2 year old Rottweiler just passed away). Having a machine on-hand is a lifesaver.
The best system I've found for cleaning is to spray the carpet before extracting with Simple Green Clean Building® Carpet Cleaner in a dedicated garden sprayer. I agitate slightly with a dedicated, soft bristle push broom. Then, I extract with water only in the Bissell 86T3 Big Green. This has prove to be an extremely effective and safe method. using the Bissell as directed nets carpets that dry in a few hours. CLICK HERE TO GO TO got2bjennyg's LINK |

I use Zep premium carpet shampoo in a Bissel Proheat 2x. However I am considering a Lindhaus "dry clean" system. |

I alternate between my Rug Doctor and my Electrolux Floor Pro. "Dry" cleaning doesn't quite do the job when the carpets are really dirty but it's good enough for a quick refresh every couple months. I continue to be very impressed by my Rug Doctor though, it's the model that has both a vibrating brush and a rotating brush. The cleaning results are very impressive, I just wish it had larger tanks.
I actually just cleaned my carpets yesterday in fact, and the almost 20 year old carpets look great again thanks to the Rug Doctor. I have literally never used another residential portable carpet cleaner that is as effective as the Rug Doctor has been. |

But I mainly use my Kirbys dry cleaning method alternating between times... With the Rainbow Aquamate ( newest E2 style) b/c I'm a Rainbow fan and like extraction here and there.... Just wish it had more cfm/water lift for even faster drying time. I'm big on spending a little more time pulling out all the moisture possible .....before I set up a box fan , all to reduce the drying time needed that we have to stay off it. I've been happy with the results ( Note: GOOP....that is used for cleaning hands after working on cars etc, does amazing good on clothes and carpeting for wine/grease and other challenging to remove stuff....and it's CHEAP )

Look at Rug Doctor. I’ve got the Rug Doctor Deep Carpet Cleaner and it’s by far the best machine I’ve used. They’re going for $274 on their website but may be cheaper at BestBuy or Amazon. |

i'm using my ridgid wd0670 or workshop ws0915va with shop vac steam team carpet, bare floor & upholstery shampooing extraction kit
i upgraded the original plastic wands to the stainless steel rainbow wand the only downside is connecting the water supply hose onto a faucet & no powered brush (i have a kenmore spraymate but no more belts) it uses flat belt that is the same setup i used when my basement flooded when the portage branch river flooded
