Has anyone ever seen/owned one of these? Google shows nothing..especially any bags available.....

My grandparents had one of those when I was a kid but their model was made by Sanyo. The Sanyo model didn't take bags from what I recall. | ||

In the 1980's, most Japanese vacuum manufacturers sold very similar compact bagless canisters. The front section separates from the rear motor section to reveal a dust container filtered by a multi-layered removable filtration wall. The filtration wall often had accordion like filter layers combined with a fine mesh screen which offered a way to separate fine dust. Sanyo offered a turn-crank that would fling fine dirt out of the accordion.
Many vac-makers in Japan offered these: National/Panasonic, Sanyo, Toshiba and Hitachi. They were great cleaners...powerful, lightweight and quiet! Many offered a way of storing the vac on top of a sturdy plastic box which stored all the tools. Only downside: very short hoses - maybe 5 feet long in some cases - though they were electrified so that the handle could provide a convenient on-off switch. Sears Kenmore offered a rebadged Panasonic which they labelled the "Let's Clean!". Cute!!! | ||

And here's a version of the National compact vac on YouTube...very unique in that the crank which flicks the filter pleats is linked to the cord reel! When you pull out the cord, it turns the crank and knocks out the fine dust into the container!
