Well, I'm still in Calgary visiting and shopping till Wed morning. I havnt found much for vacuums (Just a couple of accessories I needed) but my biggest laugh yesterday was at a flea market. One of the sellers had a Hoover 105 in his booth. Replacement bag, wrong switch, bag holder missing, bumper half torn off and generally in very poor shape (dirty too). He had to get $50.00 min for it because it was an antique and complete (ya - right)- I laughed at him and kept going.

I have seen Kirby Classics and Dual Sanitronic 50's in stores and flea-markets that have looked like they heve been sitting in humid, damp basements or sheds for YEARS. They are all corroded, beat up, dusty, bag all hanging off, not even the correct bag and some of these people still want $200.00 for these machines!! I'l stick with my $30.00 ebay finds...

I've seen within the past 3 days a Kirby Ultimate G5 for $400.00, and a G4 for $50.00 at the Cats and Dogs Forever Thrift Shop down the highway. It's a great charity but for $400.00? $50.00 maybe.

at the swap meet there is a guy who has a trashed G-5, with a ripped Gsix bag, he wants $50 for it he has had it at the last 4 swap meets! today there was an o.k. heritage 84 for $25, another guy has a tradition for $75, sheesh!!! it is hard to want to pay anything after you scored a complete Gsix 2001 at a yard sale for $15!

FOR REAL! I paid 200.00 for my refurbished G4, but knowing that it was refurbished, sand blasted, polished and with warranty made me comfortable with the purchase. Even came with brand new attachments. the most I've ever spent on a Kirby but well worth it to me, knowing what I know about them..

$200.00 was my limit though... I figured, well, if thats what people can pay for some of those big box store "tupperware" vacs that you pretty much have to replace every few years, why not spend that much on one I will appreciate, baby, and get YEARS of use out of? It's probably my favorite vacuum out of all of my Kirbys! It looks modern and retro at the same time and I love the filtration system on it. No funky odors or dust blowing from it. The way it grooms the carpet is the best part, I love seeing how refreshed my rugs look after using it, same with my Heritage and Legend II models.. awesome cleaners...

I was at the Antique Store a couple of weeks ago and found an Automatic G with some attachments and bags. the Hose looked like crap and the vacuum was slightly rusted and pitted I looked at the tag and it said $95.00 for the whole thing. I looked at the woman at the counter and said that I would offer $15 but she said that the person whom was selling it wanted $95. I let her know that I would not pay anything over $10 because if I wanted a rusted and pitted machine I could have bought one on ebay for $1.99

I do know what you mean

"Tupperware" vacuums would probably outlast regular plastics, but they'd still be plastic. I would not want to replace any vacuum even after ten years.

I still am DUMBFOUNDED by the eBay listings these days! Some of them are ridiculous...and then the fact that they keep listing them over and OVER! Man, oh man! If they see that their $400 Hoover Model 700 with "bojack" bag isn't selling, shouldn't they at least lower it to $300 or so?! Grr...It gets harder and harder to find good deals on eBay anymore!

~~K~~

Hello from over the pond. Only last year I finally wangled the chance to see a collection of Hoovers owned by a soon to retire cleaner/washer repair man. It comprised of only a few Hoovers as it turned out ; 100,262(USA 28 ?)725, JUNIOR 375 & 541. Believe me the wait of nearly 20 years was not worth it..they all left very much to be desired. The 541 had a 30's bakelite wall switch,a bathroom basin plug type chain assembly where the handle release mechanism was, a 50's bag albeit a hoover, no furniture guard and the whole base looked as if it had been sprayed with a sort of UK 50's dustette 100 bronze paint finish. HE was asking for ....FROM... 500 pounds!!!

Yes these cleaners are rare over here but honestly !!!

WHERE DO THESE PEOPLE GET THEY'RE IDEAS FROM ?

Regards, Walter, Shropshire, UK.

Hurry up and grab this bargain!

What makes me so frustrated about this is that I really, really need it! But $50 would be pushing things, let alone...
