Whoever you are thank you.

The Electrolux model LX in mint condition that was in Super Market which I mentioned in a previous post was delivered to me yesterday via FedEx. I contacted the seller, and all he said was "you have a secret admirer, enjoy it!" So unless it was my housemate, (the guy who made it clear "no more vacuum cleaners!") somebody at the V.C.C.C., or Vacuumland has just made my Christmas. It even has the original bill of sale!

Needless to say, I'm blown away!

That's really nice of whoever did it. When I saw the listing on eBay I thought of you and knew you would go nuts for it. Unfortunately, it was way beyond my budget -- so I was your Secret Santa only in my thoughts. smile

I strongly suspect it's my housemate!

caligula's profile picture
Very few members know my address, and he knew I was following the bidding, or lack thereof. He's the only one who had access to my computer and thus a way to contact the seller. When I posted that 'Somebody's going to have a very merry Christmas' he smiled a bit too broadly. So much for the "no more vacuum cleaners" remark.

This is a fantastic pre Christmas present, and a great addition to the display. As for the tubing, got that covered.

Pictures will be posted soon.

Well, if it was your housemate, he is sticking to what he said. After all, YOU didn't buy any more vacuum cleaners. :)

I'm sure it was him, he knew I was watching that auction, not for the vacuum cleaner alone, but for the box of wrappers and the paperwork. There were no bids. Then on the last day I saw one bid and knew it was going to someone. Fact is, he knew this is my favorite, but as I have one never thought he'd do it.

I wonder what $162.75 is in today's money.

Wonderful! I see the lady lived in an apartment. Can you imagine walking down the hallway of the building and hearing her LX purring away inside her home through her front door! :)

Interesting lady.

Looks like the person on the slogan 'See no dirt, Breathe no dirt, Touch no dirt.' I may not have it in the exact order, but I'm going on memory,nd at my age it's fading.

Now all I need is a new red carton the LX came in. I have one but it's falling apart.

Actually, the memory is me at the same time I saw it eject. June 4, 1953 would have me at two years and nine months.

And you'll love this Charles.

The Tufter was never used, and the attachments sparkle is if factory new. The machine itself is in mint condition.

Beauty shot to follow sometime after New Year.

$162.75 in 1953 would be $1,471.17 in 2016.

I used the CPI Inflation Calculator @ data.bls.gov/cgi-bin/cpicalc.pl...

Charles Richard, that couldn't happen! A LX is so quiet nobody would know she was using it.

The sound of vacuum cleaners.

caligula's profile picture
Hi Andy:

Back in May of 1993 Charles not only attended the eighth annual meeting of the V.C.C.C. but also introduced me to the idea of using the vacuum cleaner as a way to relax. Charles suggested I open the windows, turn on a vacuum cleaner (any brand and model) then go for a walk. The idea was to hear the sound of the motor running as I got to the front door. It worked. Listening to my Electrolux LX running as I entered the house always brightened my mood.

So about 1,500.00 dollars! No wonder the husband of the lady who introduced it to me when I was a kid made the comment. "Tell him that it isn't a toy!" His wife, as I did, knew this was something very special to me. And it still is.

1500

Wont buy anything half as good as a model 60 !! Because NOTHING is as well built today, Funny, with all the technology today you would think much better products could be made, but they are nothing more than cheap plastic...Mieles, Sebos etc, good performing machines, but still no where near the quality of a model 30 or 60!
