Hi, so my Buddy dropped off an E he got for me in Houston. I could hear what sounded like rust or something rolling around inside the shell of the unit.

I took the back end off, exposing the motor, took out the hex bolts and tried to pull the motor out. In the process I found a rubber gasket that I pulled through.

I wire brushed and painted the rusty inside section and gently tapped out some shell dents.

When I went to put the motor back in, I struggled with the gasket finally inverting it hoping it would flip back when inside. Yes I did notice what looked like cement film but figured the rubber gasket would lay flat and prevent air leaks.

It did not work.

Looks like I will have to remove the bag compartment from the front in order to access and re-glue the rubber gasket from inside.

IS THIS THE ONLY WAY?

I would have to drill out the rivets holding the bag compartment in order to gain access to the inside. YES?

I'm guessing that the rubber gasket you are talking about is the diaphragm that goes from around the motor to the support frame of the motor. The diaphragm should go up against the bulkhead between the bulkhead and the support frame. The screws or studs will go thru the gasket and the support ring into the bulkhead.

It sounds like you inverted the diaphragm and put it inside the bag chamber housing.

You shouldn't have to remove the bag chamber as this is all done from the motor end.

I meant to post.........

that I figured it out. I need to make sure to make a better note of things when I disassemble next time. I did, however, drill out two rivets holding the bag chamber frame before I figured it out about the diaphragm.

Thanks Bikerray. BTW, always enjoyed your posts about your Thrift Store road trips.
