Hi guys and gals - I'm a frequent reader but rarely a poster, and I'm stuck. Maybe someone can offer some advice.

I found a nice U4303 today at an estate sale that's beautiful but makes the most horrible screeching noise when turned on. It's a plastic base model with a metal fan chamber and plastic, 12-vane fan. The fan is rubbing against the metal fan chamber to make that sound.

I thought it was a spacing issue, but if you take the fan off there's just one metal washer under it. Removing the washer makes the fan scrape against the motor housing, which is the opposite problem.

The fan is super glossy and looks like it could be a replacement. Are there different fan sizes? Is it possible this is just the wrong fan entirely?

thanks in advance!
