I always hated vacuuming for my mother but did like to drag the "torpedo" style vacuum around as a child....now, as a 60 year old, I collect pre 1935 vacuums as well as pre 1900 washing machines and very early refrigerators. Why ? Your guess is as good as mine.
Anyway, I look forward to being a member.

Dave

I thought I was loosing my mind when I started inexplicably collecting vintage sewing machines.

Now that I've graduated to vacuum cleaners, well,... now we know. I'm nutz.

Welcome to the club.

Welcome to the group from a fellow Buckeye who turned 60 just 5 days after you did! What part of Ohio are you from? I grew up in Mansfield and live in Galion. Have 120 in my collection, mostly Electro-Hygienes (which I used to sell), Royals, and Hoovers. Sounds like you have a nice collection as well. Again, welcome!
Jeff

I see you share my interest in pre- 1936 vacuum cleaners, this is the place I'm most comfortable, with the exception of the two Electrolux models XXX, 1937 - 1952, and of course the model LX which followed. You also say you like the washing machines of the 1900's, this is my favorite time period for both. Please contact me at Ralextaber@gmail.com.

Hello again -
Where do all of you find room for such large collections ?

I'm in Westlake, Ohio (just west of Cleveland) and have around 10 vacuums, 4 sweepers, 8 washing machines (mostly pre-electric)...this small collection takes up 1/3 of my basement when displayed properly.

I find that the mechanical workings on the washing machines are quite amazing and the simplicity and effectiveness of the vacuums is amazing as well.

I managed to keep 40 of my 50 machines in my 11x13 bedroom...and still manage to live there! The rest are in my basement for repairs or rebuilds. They will be upstairs soon.
