I was working at home today and had "Match Game 78" on the TV as background noise while I was working. My ears perked up when I heard the announcer say, "Today's consolation prizes include the Electrolux Super J canister vacuum and the new Electrolux Upright. Get into Electrolux Territory!"

When the next episode came on I had my camera ready and got a shot of the Electrolux prize. :)

Then on the next episode after that, one of the consolation prizes was the Hoover Power Drive. I still had my camera out so I got a shot of that one, too.

I loved watching Match Game up here in Montreal as a teen!!! Trying to remember some of the stars that were on the panel....Charles Nelson Reilly rings a bell, also Ruth Buzzie from Laugh-In! I think Cloris Leachman and Betty White were on it sometimes too. And that co-star astronaut from I Dream Of Jeannie....what was that guy's name?

You know....all those game shows also offered Eurekas. I will never forget that split second shot of a Eureka Empress or Empress II shown as a consolation prize on The Newlywed Game! Consolation prize? To me that would have been a Grand Prize! 😄

One Matchgame '78

episode featured the Gold Eureka canned ham rotomatic power team as a prize for all the contestants. AB Electrolux already owned Eureka (1974). Not American Electrolux. A lot of people still don't know the difference.

Hoover Dial-A-Matic U6039-030

One of my favorite color combinations! So much more advanced than the Concept One which followed IMHO. Does anyone remember the episode of "Family Matters" where they used this model? Carl was trying to fix it in the living room as it spewed a plume of dust. They removed the Hoover name from just below the exhaust vents. I've heard tell of it seen on "Roseanne" as well. Guess it made the rounds on ABC shows.

Ah, the Electrolux "gold diggers"--the Model 1401/Super J and Model 1363, the original USA upright! The Celebrity II Elite appears to be a Model U3061 in cinnamon orange; and the Dial-A-Matic is a Model U6039-030 in sea blue & oyster white from 1976-77.

I'm sure Johnny Olson helped sell a bunch of those cleaners!

Great fun--thanks for sharing.
