Has anyone made a filter queen HEPA cone?

By this I mean taking a hepa bag and cutting it to fit inside of a filter queen. If so were your results good?

While I have not done that, I believe the original cellulose filter cone filters to pretty much HEPA levels as it is. I've never seen any dust on the inside portion of a filter queen used with genuine cones exclusively.

I agree with Tom.

I think the filter  cones are pretty dern good as they are.  I actually think another material would be less effective due to the fact that the Original filter cones are smooth, allowing dust and dirt to slip off and be thrown outward by the air current.

If you introduce a material that is more poreus the material in the bin would have more of a tendency to cling to the material, and thus end up being less effective.

Filter Queen claims to have better-than-HEPA filtration with the cellulose cones in combination with the Medipure cones.

I'd also imagine that a porous cloth HEPA bag would reduce efficiency quite a bit.

Yea I was thinking that since they are smooth that would help versus the hepa bags, I just read about people saying they lose airflow quickly. So I kind of figured the cone was just like a thin paper bag like a traditional vac and when you use a hepa bag it sometimes makes the performance better. I know that on my tristar doing the hepa conversion has been night and day compared to all the brands of tristar paper bags I tried. So when I got my new CS it got a hepa bag to begin with, but again a tristar is a totally different setup.

The difference is that the Filter Queen uses the smooth sides of the cellulose filter to force the dust and dirt down into the bottom of the tank, so a very porous cloth HEPA bag is rougher and would potentially catch more dust

The Filter Queen cones are multi layered, highly compressed, interwoven layers of cellulose. They are meant to be smooth as the air current is supposed to create a cyclonic action that airwashes the dust off of the cone for maintained power. But sometimes the dust gets too thick and sticks to the cone. But if you take out the motor and leave the cone as it was, then flick it lightly with your finger in various spots from the inside, every so often, that can clean the cone and greater restore power for the next time the unit runs.

Otherwise as it runs with the genuine Filter Queen cone and MediPur filter virtually no dust of any kind passes through that cone. The only time the premotor filter gets dirt on it is when people take off the motor while fan hasn't fully stopped and disturb the cone so that dust falls inside the clean area. Also any time a cone is replaced, the gasket should be wiped. You should create a clean seal with rubber to cone to motor!!

Dirt and dust clinging to FQ filters-pick up some bulk material to "knock" the dust off the cone.In one area where I used to live the vac place I visited was often visited by drywall contractors as well-they were looking for older FQ and Compact vacuums for job cleanups. They would use double cone or paper bag(Compact) to keep the fine plaster dust from the motors. This dust will kill a motor very quickly--eats up the bearings. They also pick up some larger material to knock the fine dust from the cone or bag-keeping it from clogging.Fine material only will clog either machine. They would use the FQ or Compact for final job cleanup after using a shop type vacuum.
