I need help finding a bag for my 1976 Kirby classic 3. I sent for one through Kirby but they sent me a bag that the air goes right through and it's brick red not red plaid like the old one. They keep telling me that that is the one they replaced it with but it won't work because air goes right theough it so you know so will the dirt! Please help!

Lisa,

While the plaid does not match the OEM bag you're trying to get replaced, this would still be workable going by the primary trim color (red):

The current replacement bags from Kirby for this and other older machines are, of course, a solid black color.

Dust with straight through the original red/plaid bags as well. I traded in every single Classic III I came to on a Rainbow, due to the dust flying through the original cloth bag. ALL cloth bags (original or not) leak lots of fine dust.

The Kirby Classic 3 uses a shakeout cloth bag which acts as a filter so it is normal to feel air coming through the bag. Dysonman1 is correct, those old shakeout bags do leak some fine dust.

There are conversion kits available which would convert your Classic3 to use disposable paper or cloth HEPA bags however they are somewhat expensive.

Is This Close Enough?

This old Kirby looks like it's about to sell for about  $6.

That bag is pretty close to the Classic III.

You could use it until the proper bag turns up on ebay.

One just sold on ebay, with a pile of random parts, just 2-3 days ago for about $5.

I meant to bid on that myself, but I forgot.

I'm still kicking myself for that one.
