Congratulations on your acquisition of a NIB Eureka Rugulator upright. My advice for setting the nozzle height properly: The handle release pedal will allow the cleaner's handle to lower to 2 positions - press once for normal cleaning and press again to lower the handle "flat to the floor" for cleaning under furniture. Before turning the vacuum on, release the handle to the normal cleaning position. Keep lowering the handle until the front of the motor head lifts off the carpet. When you tilt the head off the carpet, it's much easier to slide the Rugulator to any position. With the handle tilting the front end off the carpet, slide the Rugulator to the highest position. Turn on the cleaner, tilt the handle back, and keep sliding the Rugulator to lower positions until you hear the cleaner grooming the carpet (you can keep tilting the front end up between settings to make it easier to slide the Rugulator). Indeed, once you reach a level that allows the cleaner to brush the carpet, you can slide the adjuster a touch lower for deep carpet cleaning. These classic Eurekas did not have overly-powerful suction, so you should not have a problem with "suction-lock" on the carpet. But if the nozzle is not set too low, it will increase airflow and cleaning effectiveness.
Enjoy your new Eurekas!!!!!! |

Thank you. Im confused though. You keep mentioning tilting handle back andcadjsust? Wouldn't you have to tilt forward so brush can start hitting carpet? Sorry but please re-advise. |

Sorry Tim...I made it more complicated than it is.
1. Tilt back off the carpet, set Rugulator to highest setting, stop tilting (let go of handle) to let vacuum rest on the front wheels as usual 2. Turn on vacuum. No grooming sound means it's too high. Yes grooming sound means it's set okay. 3. Tilt back to slide Rugulator to lower setting if need be. Let rest on carpet again to listen for grooming sound. Repeat until the vacuum is low enough to be sweeping the carpet properly. The "tilt back" trick is only needed to make it easier to slide the Rugulator. You could try to slide the Rugulator without tilting the front wheels off the carpet, but it's much harder to slide when the full weight of the front of the vacuum is pressing on the wheels. |

Tim....here's a 16 second videoclip that says it better than anything I've written! It's for a Eureka DialaNap but the principle is the same....lift the front of the cleaner to make it easier to change the height setting:

III double brush steel beater bars may still be available, or a used one can be fitted with new brushes. Yes, the Beam Rugmaster/ Eureka Express style power nozzles uses the same. Non cogged belts. |

The Eureka Express brush roll is very different from the brush roll needed for this model!!!
While both have the belt located at the same spot, the brush roll for these machines have bearing plates on each end that lock the brush roll into the housing. The bearing plate on the section by the belt creates the seal between brush roll cavity and belt section. The bearing plates on the original Eureka stock has rubber gaskets surrounding them. The belt pulleys are different as well. 1st Generation Rainbow power nozzles made by Eureka had these brush rolls along with Tri-Star. All models had the large bearing plates. I have owned both styles of power nozzles. Despite no longer currently owning an Express, I do have saved pictures of it and downloaded a few more brush roll photos. The Express is a more typical looking brush with no large plates. Pictures 1-4 are of the style brush roll that you need for that style power nozzle!! Photo 1 is the current market generic CWP style replacement for that power nozzle. Notice it has the bearing plates, separate pulley and dual row chevron style brush. Other photos show both VGI and VGII styles of that brush roll for those power nozzle styles, which are my actual power nozzles. Original part number 26680-2, 53480, 53348 Picture 5-8 show the Eureka Express/ Beam Rugmaster/ Sweep N Groom power nozzle brush roll. The part number is 53411, the all metal brush roll that is a more flush design has no bearing plates. It is a VGIII. This brush roll is for the Express power nozzle not yours!!! |
