My tristar dxl quit working the other day. So I took it apart.
The cord seemed fine, no breaks, no disconnections, maybe internally? Idk
When I moved the copper commuter and the switch is on, it starts fine and blue sparks fly.
If I change my brushes will my vacuum work again?
How can it magically turn on just by putting new brushes in it? How would the motor know?
Anyway, will I most likely need a new motor? Is this a motor issue or brush issue?
Also, I should mention that it quit working intermittently the few days before it quit completely.
It would come on fine, others times, nothing after flipping the switch. This last for 3 days.
Thanks

Yes,the motor should work again with new brushes. The old ones are too short-the brush springs weaken with time.New brushes are longer and have fresh brush springs to apply more tension to the brushes.also when you change the brushes take a swab and clean out the brush holders-and follow with a blast of compressed air.Check that the new brushes slide freely in the holders. There are many ways to clean communtators-do that as well. Then you should be good to go.

Yeppers. Just like pinging a starter with a hammer that won't work. Sometimes the brushes stick, or get a bit too short.
