Why was the Ultimate G diamond normal/delicate switch not present on the later models like the Sentra and avalir? I really like the switch as I could vacuum drapes using the hose?

That had to do with the fact some Ultimate G Diamond users likely confused the auxiliary high/low switch with the brush speed indicator light on the rug nozzle.

The auxiliary low speed, or "Delicate" mode, was used on low-pile carpeting.

Bryce,

The 2 speed switch caused more problems than any other model Kirby. One of the biggest is that customers didn't realize that when the switch was lit up, it was in low speed and off for high speed. Customers were constantly returning their machines complaining that their machine was not cleaning well. If they had read the User's manual they would have realized that when the switch was lit up the machine was set to LOW speed.

Another problem was that the Diamond edition actually had 4 speeds confusing users even more. The switch produced hi and low speed in carpet mode and a separate hi and low speed in hose mode. The Diamond edition had many more service calls than any previous model solely because of improper use of the speed switch.

It is for these reasons Kirby decided to remove the speed switch from all future models.

I also remember accounts of Kirby motors being blown while users trying to use the shampooer in the low speed mode-the manual stated to use the shampooer in high speed mode only.Same with the fluffer and hard floor polisher. These would put too much of a load on the motor when it was on low speed.
