Does anyone have info on these? Were they an attempt at a commercial machine?

There is a bit of foggy history behind this vacuum. I think the original Singer vacuum plant in the USA was eventually bought by the Japanese Ryobi company and the Singer upright pictured is from a period when Ryobi owned the Singer brandname for use on vacuum cleaners. Not sure how long that lasted, but TTI of Hong Kong now owns Ryobi and the former Singer plant makes power tools and Ridgid shop vacs for Home Depot.

Thanks for the response! I know Ryobi also made the Bissell upright. I have a Singer and a Bissell, but I was more curious about the Durabuilt name. Was it private label for a store?

Unfortunately, I know nothing about that Durabuilt brandname. I'll post again if I find something thru Mr. Google.

Maybe it was for Home Depot or some other hardware store?

I don't have an answer for the original question, but I can tell you I have that same vacuum in red and it's badged Singer. It's in great shape and actually a very decent carpet cleaner. I have never tried to use the hose/tools, not a fan of the setup, and can't imagine it being much better than a Hoover Elite or similar. I guess I should try it out some time.

I've seen Singers and Bissells with that body style but not the Durabuilt name.
