Picture it...1971 Lower Creek Elementary School, Lenoir NC....I was standing in the hall with my nose to the wall for some long forgotten infraction of Mrs Wootens rules.....I was standing there going Vroom Vroom Vroom ..when the Principal Mr P,C, Keener came walking by.."What are YOU doing" he asked.."Im trying to SUCK OLD MRS WOOTEN UP IN MY VACUUM CLEANER!" I replied...He lost it and ran down the hall trying not to laugh...He reminded me of this a few years ago, He said He and his secretary, Mrs Williams laughed for the rest of the day!Even at 6 years old I loved the vacuum cleaner!!LOL

Nose on the wall-when I was in the hall for punishment in elementary school-wasn't the nose on the wall-but the baseball bat sized paddle to my butt!Mrs Brown BROKE one of those paddles on me-one hit was enough.I was heard thruout the whole school-my brother who went to the school with me--said"I heard some kid really GETTING it!!"I said--THAT was ME!I said she broke her board on me!!She swung it like a baseball bat--Remember it still you first felt the puff of air from the paddle-THEN!!!!!That day wished I could do more to that teacher than suck her into a vacuum!

I had plenty of toys

as a little tyke. Fire trucks, Lincoln Logs, Legos, Tonka back hoe, dump truck, race track, chemistry set, micro scope, matchbox cars, model cars, crystal radio.
My dad would come work and ask what I did today. I vacuumed for mom. Girls work he'd say. My aunt would watch us when my folks went on weekly shopping trips. She had a pink GE swivel top. "He is not to play with your sweeper." She always let me.
At age 6, my moms pea green Eureka mobile Air put me in the hospital from lifting it up and down the stairs. Congenital hernia.
I had to beg them for a new sweeper in 1973. "That old vibra beat is shot" I told them. Mom agreed. The hose leaked and the cord had been taped more than once.
Dad not being a spend thrift, bought a gold Eureka 1620 straight suction canister. Not terrific for shag carpet, but the vibra beat of old worked on it.
Mom got nice deep pile carpet in 1979, so I got her a Eureka 1279 brandywine powerteam. How may kids buy their mom a vacuum cleaner? I also bought their first Micro wave oven.

Mine has been a life long obsession as well. I have worn out my fair share of Kirby belts, agitators on them. As well as the pile of the carpet.

I haven't bought my mom any new vacuums. I have however bought two new mixers for her. First one was a mix master. I needed for some of my baking needs. The second one a Kitchenaid. The second as I haven't been as available for the holiday baking we usually did. She loves it and thinks of me every time she gets it out to make anything she wants to make.

I threw my head back and laughed out loud at that. :)
I too loved my mom's Kirby, even as a child.
I remember polishing it as far back as about 11yrs old, and wondering to myself, "Why am I polishing the friggin' vacuum cleaner?"
