I have an old Sears shop-vac with both the intake and exhaust ports on the top, and it uses a cardboard container. There is also a swiveling plastic carrying handle on the top.
Why cardboard? Maybe it was made when metal was being rationed, like just before or during WW2? Does anyone know offhand anything about such a unit? It's in the garage, hidden away, but I will get the model number and some pictures if anyone is interested. |

Maybe for cost-the fiberboard container less expensive than a metal one.My Dad had one of these-He used it to vacuum our hair after he gave a haircut. You could only use the vacuum for DRY pickup-no wet pickup with these models. |
