How can I get to the on-off switches.

The on off switch is mounted to the underside of the top cover. It is a slide switch. To get to the switch there should be a screw at the front of the cover and two screws under the blower cover. There may be one going through the handle as well, once you take these out the cover will come off and you will see the switch mounted to the underside of the cover.

Thanks. Something is no longer making contact. I got it to go on a few times by pressing the on-switch repeatedly, but now the motor no longer goes on.

Once you get in there, you should be able to use a multi-tester (a.k.a. a volt ohm meter) determine whether it's the actual switch that's the problem of whether there's something worn out on the cosmetic switch cap that you push on when you turn the machine on and off. It may be as simple a spritzing a little contact cleaner into the switch and working it back and forth a few times or it may require actually replacing it.

The link below shows a step-by-step procedure for disassembling a Diamond Jubilee machine. Maybe it'll be close enough to your Marquis to be at least somewhat useful.

Glad it helped...

The basic structure of metal canisters changed surprisingly little over the years. I used that same procedure as a guide to disassemble one of my 1205s this summer to replace the handle and it showed me everything I needed to know--including feline supervision.
