Hi all, I recently picked up this old PN-1 in Shelton, WA. I think it is an early one. Interestingly, when I brought it up to the cashier, they mentioned it had a huge Vacuum to go with it. When we looked for it it was gone, supposedly thrown out after sitting there for a year. I gather this was the CB version, and I an disappointed it was discarded. Anyway, I have noticed three versions of this white plastic PN. One has a little metal showing at the end, the other has more metal in the shaft, and this one that has an all plastic shaft. I think this is the more breakable one I have heard about. This one has seem plenty of use. Thanks for any information.

Here it is reunited with a model G, I think

I was thinking this white one goes with the model G. Do these two go together? I was using a different PN with this.

The white one spins great and has a great brush roll, but sounds terrible, so I will have to investigate. Thanks again.

Nice PN-1

I think the white PN-1 went with the 'hospital' version of the model G. If things are noisy, you might need new bearings (the little bronze balls at each end of the brush roll). Fortunately, they are readily available and not expensive. In my opinion, the PN-1 is an excellent power nozzle, quite comparable in performance to just about anything on the market today. With a little TLC, it should last you a lifetime.

The pn 1 is great but I have to hunch to use it I'm 6'2 so I just use a pn 4 that's polished aluminum.

White PN1

Is correct for the turquoise G, but I just bet the huge cleaner was a C-A, the best and rarest commercial machine ever!

Bearings

There are 2 versions, the large bearings and the small ones. Large Pn-1 bearings are readily available, but the small ones are scarce as Hens Teeth! You can try oiling them with 3-in-1 motor oil

Let me know if you have questions, I might have some extra large bearings

I had one of these Electrolux

and I gave it away.  I also had the "infamous" J,  I believe, it was. I gave that away as well.

Bearing

Well, I checked out the bearing situation and unfortunately it has been run without one for a long time and everything in this gizmo is totally reamed out. I have a unit that I might be able to take a part off of but I don't want to part it out. I do have a newer PN but the part is not the same.

So

here I am trying to grind this newer one to be thinner and smaller so it will fit in the same slot as the old one. I had this so the budget on this is basically zero. This took longer than I thought. I had to stop and put some ice on it as it might damage the rubber part in there...

I

had to cut up the old unit to create a brace to hold the newer part in place. There was a lot of honing on this and this isn't complete yet

Here it is installed

some of you might recognize the part as a little bigger but basically the same. Anyway I tested it out and it works perfectly, Thanks for looking.

The white, or ivory-colored, PN-1 with the teal bumper and plastic wand (there was also one with a brown bumper to complement the tan Model G) was made for the following cylinders:

1) Model R - 1960-63
2) Model G (aqua) - 1960-66
3) Model L (ivory) - 1963-66

The first ones had sans-serif "Electrolux" capitals on the hood--they would have been the ones with the smaller bearings. These also had a gray cord and no clean-out port on the bottom plate. Circa 1962 the "Electrolux" caps were the more famiiar serif style and the words "Power Nozzle" were added underneath in a sans-serif, smaller size. The cords on those were aqua, and the bottom plate had a clean-out port. Any of these that you might see with a detachable wand have been refurbished. Since most of the wands of the pns with the brown bumper have been replaced with the detachable ones, they were the ones that had a cheaper plastic--but I think it still had a metal tube underneath. I have one that is cracked at both ends (it's in a storage unit), but the wands on the pns with the teal bumpers are typically fine.

The commercial version used for the canister models C-A (1962-65) and CB (aqua, 1965-66) had a detachable one piece steel wand without a sheath. In addition, the cord had a grounded plug. Jimmy/"Rugsucker" and Tom/"dysonman1" have them for their Model C-As--maybe one will post a photo if they read this. I am hoping to purchase one for my aqua Model CB, but they seem to be rarer than a MN snow in August.

PN 1

The CA PN 1 used 2 steel wands, each with spring clip at top.The wands would store at the sides of the attachment compartment at the upper rear with the PN hanging behind with the storage clip inserted in the brush opening.

Hopefully the C-A was bought by a vac collector or put in a warehouse
