I was playing with my Thane H2O Turbo vac. I vacuumed all of the hard floors and it did a pretty good job, the water in the tank was black. I then decided to use it to blow off the porch. All was well until I cleverly yanked the unit on to it's side when the cord got stuck, dumping the nasty ass water into the hepa filter and all through the case. Because I am a responsible owner I immediately said F*** it and shoved it into the utility room. Since it was at the mini-manse I forgot about it quickly. Needed it for something the other day and damn does it stink! Pulled the Hepa out which was the root cause and have tried to clean it. Multiple washings have helped a little. I can't seem to find a replacement even after consulting the Google. Can anyone offer a suggestion?

One tablespoon

of bleach per gallon of water.

Vac, thanks for the info. I've just been spraying water onto the filter, should I actually dunk it? The instruction manual is not clear.

are you saying

that you got accidentally turned it on its side and all that dirty crap you just sucked up coated the filter with wet muck, then you just put it in a dark place to store it without letting it dry out? Then yes, dunk the think in the bleach water solution and let it soak, then give it days to dry.

Geez Mark, you make it sound like I was irresponsible or somethin'. Plus it really wasn't that dark in there.

Perhaps, a funeral fire is in order? Indeed, that should take care of its vile nastiness. Whatever you decide, as always, Best of Luck

I never had an issue with my old H2O Vac Turbo's filter, which I frequently washed despite my infrequent use of the machine. That thing got dirty fast.
I'd try soaking it in one gallon of water with 4 ounces of Odoban. Lowes and Home Depot sell it, I use it both in my cleaning company and for cleaning vacuum filters and it is amazing. It cleans, disinfects, and deodorizes. It is available in a few different scents but I prefer the eucalyptus one since it dissipates pretty rapidly.
I can't stand bleach so this is an alternative that works for me, but bleach should have the same effect if you can stand it!

Good luck!
Myles

sorry I did sound harsh - but I know I would be tossing and turning in bed if I had done that :)
