I saw this mentioned and can not find out anything about the Historical Significance.

Does anyone know or can point me to the information?

The last Hoover Convertible cleaner!!

You're talking about the Hoover RS Convertible. It was a non-headlight model with burgundy/ brownish hood on a white plastic base. The bag was cloth.

Here is a link to an old Youtube video of a friend of mine that is a collector in Florida.

The significance of the RS Convertible U4597 is that it was the last of the Convertibles for the Residential line!

Nice.

Thank you Rob for the response. I finished cleaning it up this morning with the intent to sell it. It Cleaned up nicely and I replaced the belt. I did not launder the bag though.

I will take some pictures this weekend and see if there is any interest.

Thanks.
Garry

I have one also.

You MUST have one if you seriously collect the Hoover name.  I have the very first and the very last. It is a stripped down version, you'll notice. Still, it cleans very well.  A sad demise of  the Concertible.

And.............. the "RS" on the base, where

the Hoover logo goes stands for  Ron Stevens. He was the designer, if you will,  for that model.  Designer is a bit formal,  as, it's just a simple Convertible.  But,  that model was his "baby"

  History lesson, kids.

Thanks John

Good to know. I always appreciate responses. I will post pictures soon.

If anyone is interested in this machine, let me know. Instructions on how to securely pack this would be appreciated.

Hello All,
I decided that this should be add to this thread as it is where it belongs.
So a few days ago I found a Hoover Model 1170 Dial-A-Matic with Automatic Power Drive. I liked it and because I had worked on the non-power drive models. I also bought a Royal Junior Model 81 because I liked it. Today I had to go to DMV pay for the renewal. I decided I would stop at Saint Vincent De Paul on my way back home. They had a bunch of plastic style uprights and among the was a really nice looking Hoover with a good looking bag. So this Hoover turns out to be a Hoover RS Model U4597. This means nothing to me so when I get home I decide to look it up on the Internet and on Yahoo it comes up with "Historical Significance of the Hoover U4597 RS? - Vacuumland". So in my mind I am thinking yah sure some Historical Significance for a plastic Hoover. So I go to the Thread and well there is as it was the last Convertible. So darn now I have to keep it LOL. I was going to give it to a person that was in need of a good vacuum. Now I do have a good Kenmore Progressive with Direct Drive that I replace the power cord on and it did clean up nicely. I am just thankful it is not a Hoover as I probably would not want to part with it if it was.
I do need to say that I am unable to use all but 3 vacuums as I do not have carpeting in my home.
If you squint really hard it might look like a Hoover 28, well squint really really hard and use your imagination.
Thanks for looking,
Pete

Hey Pete....

Thanks for the pictures...(now I don't have to post mine). I keep forgetting to post pictures of my acquisitions. I get so focused on spa/part replacement and go straight to enjoying the product. I wait patiently for replacement parts to come in, when they do, I go straight to the repair. I won't take the pictures before, then I forget after the vacuum is restored.

Today I was given a Electrolux 1521 (I think). Looks like it was either in the rain or sat in a puddle.

I have to admit I wanted to start taking it apart since I got home hours ago. But I have a whole weekend to investigate it's condition. I know one thing for sure, my investigation WILL NOT, start with plugging it in. :}
