Thanks to one of my collector buddies, (he sent me the link to the Gumtree ad) I managed to get my Hands on a rare Hoover Turbolite complete with tool kit!

It came from an old lady in Dorset who had owned it from new, she said she bough it from a vacuum shop in Portsmouth over 25 years ago, to use for upstairs.

It arrived the otherweek and was probably used bagless at some point or had a few bags blow up in it as it was pretty dirty as can be seen from these before photos.

Strange how the pan converter has no seal around it?! That seems a little bit cheap, but there you go.

It always did on the Turbopower tool set.

Hoover

Nice Hoover made even NICER with a proper disassembly and cleaning.Over here it would be a standard Elite using type A bags.Years ago we would often see them with the cloth bag left flat and not allowing the paper bag to inflate.Hoover later added an instruction sheet explaining how to fold.
Happy Hoovering!

the pan hose adapter

looks like it may have had a seal mounted to the center grooves, unless the purpose of three grooves did the sealing. Not a lot of suction on those type of uprights to begin with.

Hoover adapter

No seal on this type. Most manufacturers will reduce materials and manufacturing steps if they feel they maintain quality.Few Elite owners actually used the hose but it was adequate for dusting jobs. And also continued the Hoover configuration that started with the Mo O.

"Over here it would be a standard Elite using type A Bags"

It was the most basic Hoover upright you could buy here, it ran along side the Turbopower Juniors in the upright range. It was only on sale for a year, this was the only US Elite style machine we had, although, we did get some other Elite BASED cleaners throughout the 90s.

The H4 bags were the Top fill bags designed for the Turbopower 1, Turbopower Juniors, Turbomaster and Turbolite uprights.

Regarding the pan comverter, I don't think it ever had a seal, as there is no sticky residue left behind, I will be adding a seal to it, which will improve the suction, I have no doubt...It makes a hissing noise in tool use, so I imagine there is quite a bit of suction lost around the converter.

Yeh, they were made in the USA for the UK market, this was known as the Elite in the US as I am sure you are aware.

Hoover Turbolite

Cool I have a Hoover Turbolite. its my nans friend older vacuum and they let me have it and my grandparents drop it off at my house. the peddle on the bottom is broken because it doesn't hold the vacuum up properly and the vacuum falls down easily. the cable is split in a couple of places and its got a bit of tape around the cable but the vacuum still works but when I turn it on a cloud of dust blows out the bag but it still picks up ok. also I know how to get to the paper bag but I don't know how to get the paper bag off the vacuum.
Here is a picture of the Vacuum.
