Awesome! Thanks for the speedy reply. Hadn't seen one before and wasn't sure if they were scarce at all. |

The attachments weren't always included with the machine, but were optional and could be bought with the machine or at a later date. Of course, the salesman usually tried to sell them with the machine as a complete ensemble if he could. Here is a pic of a set I have, with my 153 and 189 Royal uprights and 157 hand vac.

Were Royal vacuums sold DTD at one time? |

Yes, in the early years. Art Frankenfeld, who eventually founded Electro-Hygiene with Phillip Geier, started out selling Royals for the P.A. Geier Company. When the Royal line was expanded to 3 models (Standard, Super, and Purifier), Art could sell the Purifier like no other. Don't know if he or Phil Geier came up with the idea, but the decision was made to spin off the Purifier as a separate brand and wholly owned subsidiary of P.A. Geier Co., and in March 1934 Electro-Hygiene was introduced, with Art Frankenfeld heading the division. Electro-Hygiene incorporated as a separate company in 1941, with headquarters in Dayton, OH and Art Frankenfeld as president.
I don't know how long Royal remained in home sales, but Electro-Hygiene continued to be sold in homes until they went out of business, sometime in the mid to late 80's. Jeff |
