I'm working on a Self-Propelled Windtunnel at the moment and I seem to be having troubles with the belts, or perhaps the belt tensioner. The brush roll is totally stopped with the handle in the upright position. lowering engages the brush roll, but as soon as it contacts the carpet it stops. Swapped belts with my other SP Windtunnel (which works just fine) and still had slippage. Took the hood off and looked at the belt tensioner...it works other than I guess its not putting enough tension on the V-Belt. Do the springs wear out in these or am I missing something here.

Thanks
Cameron.

In the upright position, the brush roll is supposed to be shut off on that. So that is good!!

How is your brush roll itself? You mentioned checking belts but I would take out the brush remove the end caps, clean and grease the bearings.

Then check your on/off brush roll switch to ensure that is fully locking into either position and not hanging loose causing an issue when the resistance of the head hitting the carpet occurs.

The springs really shouldn't wear out like that I wouldn't think. I'd be looking more in the area of all screws being tight, not stripping and that there are no cracks in the housing anywhere causing the tensioner to get loose. Tensioners can wear out, so check the tensioner arms, full mobility, etc.
