Have they continued to offer the on-board vac in subsequent years? What a great idea!

My dad has had several GM mini vans over the years with built-in air compressors. No reason they couldn't add some 'suck' as well as the 'blow'.

GREAT!!!Perfect for those "soccer Moms" to clean up after the kids-or for those carpoolers-to clean up after the commuters!Saves having to haul a vacuum from the house. And you can vacuum that car ANYWHERE!don't have to wait until you get home.

Or,

mom can use the shop vac in the garage when she gets home, or have a kid do it.
For what they charge for the option, mom can treat the entire team to pizza all season.
As for GM adding "suck", they don't need it. They already suck in my opinion.
They do not even offer a mini-van which can be registered as a station wagon for lower insurance premiums either.
Oh, is the Traverse that? It has less floor to roof space than a minivan.

Hopefully these central vacuums have more power than the typical 12 V vacuum. I've had a few such as the Dustbuster Car Vac and a few other cheapo hand vacs, and they just didn't have enough power to do a good cleaning, maybe for detail cleaning they were okay, but cleaning flooring, etc, just not like a full size vacuum. I guess for quick surface or spill cleaning it would be okay.

There is supposed to be a time limit on running the vacs with the engine off, makes one think it has a good sized motor, maybe.

The article is from 2013 though. Are car vacs common in American cars now?

well, central vacuum is a misnomer.

The new generation Chrysler minivans (2017 Pacifica) will offer a vacuum if you order the Limited Platinum.

But, you forgo the spare (if you want to call it that) to get it.

Can't believe they are reviving the Pacifica name. One of the worst failures in Chrysler history and they have had many many recently. Incredibly unreliable and poor build quality.

The new model is no more than a blown up 200 into a town and country. Hope they improve the quality over the poor 200 build. I imagine the "central vac" is a loud and underpowered disappointment of a shop vac

Any Vehicle can have Central Vac

delaneymeegan's profile picture

Inverter connected direct to battery and plug in the vac of your choice.

2 hp compact will fit in numerous areas and should be enough power.  May need a hose extension.

Why wait for car manufacturers to do it.
