Hello, I just received my Elux b8 buffer today in the mail. It came with original manual with receipt as well as brushes, brown pads, and white pads. It is missing the wax mist bottle and was wondering if anyone knew where I could find one. Also, I saw in the manual there was a set od adapter brushes allowing you to use square steel wool pads. I was wondering if these could still be purchased. The buffer was bought in 1964 on 16 payments of 8 dollers each plus a 16 doller down payment. If anyone hads any info I would love to hear it. Also, one last concern is the belt seems gummy and was wondering if anyone knew of a replacement.
Thanks

Congratulations on your purchase!

The first Model B-8s were for polishing and scrubbing only; which is likely the version you have. Around 1965 the shampoo component was added. Some of the early ones were retrofitted with the nubs on the handle (which helped to secure the shampoo dispenser tank) and a hole drilled in the base for the dispensing tube; however, these would be less effective at deeper cleaning than those made for shampooing due to the extra weight added to their bases.

The no. 1 steel wool pads were available at local hardware stores as stated in the manual. I'm thinking they either didn't work all that well and/or most customers didn't purchase them; or Electrolux would have continued making the adapter brushes available as an option. If you do use them for refinishing your floors give us your rating of their performance.

The wax mist sprayers sometimes appear on eBay. In fact, there have recently been rug washer listings that included them, which may still be available. The rug washer is a smaller verion of the B-8 and works well on rugs and cleaning smaller areas. The one that would have been manufactured during the same time as your B-8 is an ivory color with a teal base.

As for belts, they are rare. Try contacting your local or area Aerus store (use the store locater on the Aerus website if necessary: www.aerusvacuums.com...).

Fyi ... here are the different color versions of the B-8: 1963-66, aquamarine green (or aqua); 1966-68, tan; 1968-75, teal; 1975-79, metallic gold; 1979-82, brown; 1982-83: dark gray; the redesigned version with a square-cornered plastic hood and base has been manufactured in different models since that time.

Here are some user tips:

1) If you do happen to have a shampoo dispenser tank you can also fill it with a detergent solution for scrubbing.

2) Use a wet/dry vac to retrieve the dirty water followed by a rinse for best results; otherwise, rinse twice beginning with clean water both times.

3) Remove the brushes and pads and rinse them in warm water soon after you have finished scrubbing and allow to dry completely before storing them--do not store the machine with them attached, or the bristles will become deformed.

4) Wipe off the outside of the unit and apply something like appliance wax after each use (I use Jubilee Kitchen Wax available at Ace Hardware).

I hope you're successful in completing your B-8 attachment set.

P. S. If your machine came with a dark set of brushes they are for shampooing, because of their softer bristles.

Thank you for the information.
I used the buffer for the first time today and it worked wonderfully.

Today my grandmother gave me her elux model g automatic in the matching teal, its sadly missing its hose and all i can find is the cheap vynal ones. Im into things being all original in my collection and was wondering if anyone knew where to get a new braided hose, or if anyone has an old one laying around they would be interested in sellimg. From what she tells me it was teal with a darker teal stripe.

You're welcome for the info.

You're fortunate that there is an original aqua Model G hose on eBay now:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/GENUINE-ELECTROL...

The seller mentions

1) tape on the "release button"--which is actually the suction control. That is a plastic piece that just snaps on and off (but be careful), so you could contact an Aerus store to see if it has old hose parts that you could part out (current name for the former Electrolux Corporation in case you didn't know--click here to go to the store locator: www.aerushome.com/Site/StoreLocat...)

2) that there is a "dent"--this may have been caused by someone stepping on it, running something over it, or whatever. That may or may not compromise the hose's usefulness. That's for you to decide and maybe negotiate with the seller. I have had hoses like that which worked fine.

I also wanted to mention that you could reseal the inside of the hose with some type of rubber or latex coating as it probably leaks. I was successful with Rubber Dip. Here is one thread with directions. It looks complicated but it was easy for me to do: www.vacuumland.org/cgi-bin/TD/TD-...

One more thing about the original tools (in case your grandma doesn't have hers anymore--the combination ones are ivory & teal, and the crevice tool is just teal. Below is a photo from a current eBay listing which shows them.

Electrolux B-8

Hello, I'm happy to be seeing some posting upon a machine I recently obtained: the Electrolux B-8 floor polisher! I was thinking I was buying a floor... scrubber--more than a polisher--since my uses are for an exterior deck upon which I am needs for myself doing some prep-work, SCRUBBING-wise. And, my polishing, merely, isn't going to do it, really? (I'm...older, sixty-nine, and, have an arthritic hip; so, "choice" to be down upon my hands and knees using a stiff brush attached to a...power drill, and/or manual scrubbing is less-appealing than...power scrubbing from an upright position, naturally?)

Anyhow, my unit came (only) with softer (black) polisher brushes--and, I'm hoping to MAYBE accommodate usage of some other...ones (a set of two--likely for another type of a machine) if I can get ahold of themselves and...? Apply them?

Meanwhile, I've also ordered (and, received--while still at the P.O.) some, I believe, 3-M type scrub pads: MAYBE, usuable ones!!? However, I don't know what to...do--my taking off and replacing (for starters), at all, those polishing brushes? Anyone...here (including thread initiator, John...?) have any helps for my, at least, starting out knowing HOW TO remove installed brushes? Thanks...David! I have no manuals, whatsoever!!!

@Paul is wax stripper also safe to put in the tank? I want to run it to a job but I'd rather not ruin my tank in doing a wax stripping job.
Thanks

Electrolux B-8

The B-8 tank was ONLY for shampoo solution with hard floor liquids being mopped on or from spray bottle. Also the suds shield was to be used only with soft shampoo/carpet brushes and removed when using stiff bristle hard floor brushes.
The 3rd brush and Elux quality and features made the B-8 the best floor machine ever!
